We hear about many ways to save money but no one ever mentions all the wasteful spending we do by sending money to countries whose citizens never get the benefit, which was the goal.

Good news! Even during the supposed shutdown () the american worker is still having his money sent overseas to help fund other corrupt governments.

The goal of sending out this money is to keep people quiet .. We pay nations not to go to war with us or each other.

Cut off federal aid to these nations, sit back, and watch what happens.

Exactly! Much cheaper to keep countries stable than end up getting drug into another expensive war.

we have over two hundred years of not minding our own business, and that's not going to change. I'll just go with saving money by stabilizing countries versus getting involved in conflicts to settle a dispute.

"Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute."

We pay other nations to keep them on our side. This goes back to the days of the Barbary Pirates in the late 1700s - early 1800s. We paid "tribute" to the North African nations to prevent them from confiscating our merchant vessels. Many Americans felt this was an insult to our sovereignty and demanded military action, some of which was forthcoming ("...to the shores of Tripoli"... etc.), but it continued to this day.

It's important that we flood the world with our dollar. If we don't, then other countries might start buying things like oil using other currencies, and that would have a devastating effect on our economy.

Our Dollar is the reserve currency only because there is so much of it floating around. It's stability has nothing to do with it .. All fiat currencies (like our dollar) are volatile and dangerous, and the only way to see that it stays propped up is to nearly literally give it away so that it stays cheap enough for others to use even though they have their own currency.

Iraq wasn't about oil or WMD's - It was about our dollar. Sadaam Husein threatened to start using Euro's to trade in oil, and the U.S. about blew a gasket .. wasn't long before we had Bagdad under our thumb as a result.

Yes that is the problem, two hundred years of meddling in the affairs of other nations under the guise of aid and spreading democracy, but it will change after our currency is worthless and the fed guv collapses as did rome.
