A-FREAKIN'-MEN!!!!! It's called divide and conquer! It's working and a lot of American people are too stupid to realize this, and play politics like it's some kind of sporting event! These 2 political parties distract us with social issues, while they continue to pander to the elite and destroy the economy!

Amen. It doesn't matter who started this. It is shameful for both parties to act this way and it is shameful for our National Parks to be used as a weapon to pressure others for those in power to get their way. These lands do not belong to a party, neither do the lakes, rivers or oceans. The very idea that they can tell the citizens that they are not "allowed" to enter is an American anathema. These two parties have forgotten who is in charge. Let's remind them both on election day.

Don't fall for that false equivalence "A pox on both your houses" crap. Read a little. There IS a faction within the GOP that deliberately CHOSE this tactic, as a way of using whatever leverage they can muster to delay the ACA: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/06/us...-planning.html

Destroying the people's trust in their institutions by "proving the system is broken"- by breaking it-is one of the goals of the TP monkey wrench gang in the HR.

You have to ask yourselves- what do the Koch Bros et al intend to replace our imperfect, messy democracy with?

History offers clues

Taxpayers have paid for those parks many times over, the fedguv is just showing its contempt for the people by closing them off.

I will be doing my part. And given my state is trying to move the goal posts and rig the game 2 years into an election cycle by trying to ban the Libertarian and other parties from the 2014 ballot, I'll be writing in candidates! So, yes indeed, I will do my part. Will the rest of our fellow Americans do so? Given all of the partisan hackery, I'm not so sure.

Perhaps so. HOWEVER, it is true bey0ond a shadow of a doubt that the entire debacle could have been avoided IF obama would have presented a workable full Federal Budget to the House, one that the house and the Senate could have passed. Instead there IS no Federal Budget, the argument is over a Continuing Resolution.
MR. OBAMA, WHERE IS YOUR BUDGET?

We’re not gonna take it! Americans use 1st Amendment to storm shutdown barriers

I love it. This is why we must continue to protect our rights. A good story out of all of this is rare to see.

In other words, " Nuh-uh! They are wrong and we are right." Your democratic party has shown it's colors by being just as petty and corrupt. Historically and presently. Your party - along with the republican party - are the reasons we are in the mess we are in and the answers are not found in either one of them. It is time for something new (or revisiting the way that used to work). To stick with either of the two worthless parties is to be the epitome of the Einstein's definition of insanity by doing the electing the same parties over and over and expecting different results. Now, it only remains to see if the USA is officially insane or not.
