Mysterious Pro-Secession Billboard Appears In Missouri | ThinkProgress

As of yet, it is not clear who is behind the billboard — and it’s worth noting that, whoever is behind the effort, they appear unaware of the fact that Michigan is not contiguous with the other four states the billboard lists.

I think it's safe to say that education will not be a priority in "der new contree"

Even they don't want anything to do with Arkansas. Is Ark too liberal?

None of these states are bordered with Missouri, with the exception of Oklahoma. None of these states are contiguous to the point where all 5 are connected. I'm not sure what point they are making.

I guess that the teaching of Geography is not real strong in Missouri

It's always fun to watch how the pro-secession people tend to be the most ignorant wack-a-noodle people you can find in the state.

They also tend to be outright cowards, proclaiming other people should fight to be independant. They never try to lead the fight, or get in the line of fire, for their own beliefs. They will never be more at risk than running out of chips while championing independance from their computer chair. I have called on people who rage at the world that some one should lead the charge for independance to do it, but there's always some lame excuse that they can't do more than post on message boards or forums.

Most likely they thought "MI" stood for Mississippi, not Michigan. Although, it is surprising that they would exclude Arkansas. Maybe they did not know whether to use "AR" or "AK", and did not want to confuse Arkansas with Alaska.

Likely the same crowd who wants the government to get its hands off their Medicare. Education is for snobs, according to Rick "Frothy" Santorum.

There are a few states I would love to see secede. But that's just fantasy. Why anybody would spend money on this confounds me. Can you imagine if a cluster of non-contiguous states did break away on their own? They'd find out very soon that they didn't have as many interests in common as they think. Who said "All politics is local?" There may be overarching issues these dropouts agree on, but I'll wager there are plenty where they wouldn't.

And anyway, who wants to break off and hook up with other malcontents? It's a flashing neon sign that they could easily become irrationally unhappy with YOU, too.

Imagine if we went back to the Union/Confederacy, or something similar to that map. The Confederacy's economy would collapse almost overnight due to a stoppage of funneling of Union money to the poor states. And then! And then the Union would have a refugee crisis like you would not believe. Bordering states would be inundated with people who didn't quite get what they bargained for. They'd come to understand that living in a destitute theocracy isn't really that great.
