I worked for a company that sold individual health insurance policies. There were no bonuses for denying coverage and we paid out lots of claims. I guess I was just unlucky and missed my bonus.
BTW, it looks like you are getting your health insurance "facts" from Hollywood. Yes, I saw that movie too. And it was a good movie but not a good source of health insurance facts.
These are facts as reported in the Washington Post, NY Times, LA Times which are good sources of objective health insurance facts, but not on Fox and tea party rags which only present fictional and biased health insurance facts.
I've never met a single one, not ONE!!!!! Let me tell you something. When I was a kid my father had an insurance brokerage business that specialized in guess what??? He sold health insurance!!! Now my dad, he was a right winger to the freakin core. You can bet that as a kid when all this happened I heard no end of him ranting about, "Those communists in Ottawa that were sending Canada straight to hell. Now, 30 some years later when my father was old and sick, costing the medical system hundreds of thousands of dollars and receiving the very best of care, even he, a guy that was conservative to the core of his being had to admit that the creation of our universal healthcare system was the best thing that ever happened to the country. You see he too thought it would be a government cluster fluck running the medical system. The reality is the government does not run the system. They just provide the funding and have nothing to do with the day to day operation of things.
This BS about the waiting is just that BS. There is waiting for some elective things and a very few essential services. Those essentials service wait times are being worked on all of the time and have been reduced in recent years. I'm a good example of that. When I first realized I would need cochlear implants the wait was 5 years for them. It's now been reduced to a year and I have received two of them. $70,000 cost for each of them and I have never seen a bill. They even provide me with the $150 batteries for the devices. The aftercare is amazing. They run tests on them 3 times a year and this will blow your mind! They pay me $150 each time I go there and submit to their testing!!!!
If you don't believe the waiting times then you need to take that issue up with the Canadian government. However, if you try and claim that there is no waiting, don't get mad when people post documentation proving otherwise. I've posted the waiting time data on multiple occasions, so there is no reason to spread misinformation.
Why? You've made clear that you won't be willing to grant it existed. Why should I placate such a blatantly disingenuous inquiry? If you want respect for your questions, then show some respect for reasonable perspectives that are contrary to yours. Otherwise, admit that you're a partisan, and that your questions aren't sincere. The reality is that denying that there was a crisis in this country that needed to be addressed is perhaps itself the best indication of the general order of right-wing rhetoric, refusing to acknowledge any reality that interferes with the egoistic avarice that is the foundation of their expressed perspectives.
The ignorance is on your part, not mine. You don't even know why you are parroting this nonsense, except someone gave it to you and you never questioned it. Here's a hint: Average lifespan is influenced by MANY things, the most important DO NOT INCLUDE THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM. The largest influence is GENETICS.
Oh, I'm actually quite familiar with Nunavut. I'm also aware that the government spends enormous sums of money to provide services that are COMPLETELY different from that the typical Canadian gets in the provinces. So, this and the rest of your commentary on it is irrelevant.
Perhaps you should stop being stupid. You never know who you're talking to. My wife has BEEN THAT PERSON on the bush plane going out to the villages to do a clinic, and has worked all over Alaska, from the southwest tail to the north slope (winter, no less). I also know that the Canadian government has exactly the same problem as the IHS (indian health service) that operates the medical system for the Alaskan natives.
Not only do not drink "kool-aid", I know precisely what I"m talking about, and I know it first-hand.
That's funny because every Canadian I've talked to in person doesn't seem have the issues you are describing. Hmmm let's see...should I believe a conservative with an agenda to push or ACTUAL CANADIANS when it comes to the state of their health care system vs. ours? I believe I'll take the latter.

Then we're talking to different Canadians. Those I know ("actual Canadians" ) have had unusually long waiting times (compared to ours), as much as six months for a doctor's appointment, for example. I can call my doctor's office and get in same day (if need warrants) or next week.

I have three walk-in clinics within 5 minutes of my house. If I want to see a Dr. it sure is not going to take me long to drive, ride my bike or walk over to one. I can see a Dr. the same day every single time I want to.
The biggest problem as I see it in the US model is that being a for profit industry healthcare suffers from the same problem that many for profit industries do. GREED. The desire to make big money become the prime reason for the service rather than providing an excellent service to patients.
My son and his wife are both very well known and respected specialists. You would not believe the constant offers they receive from medical firms in the USA to locate and practise there. My son says, I'm a Dr. not a hockey player. I don`t need millions of dollars for treating my patients, I will just stay here, thank you very much`.
Three generations ago half of my fathers family immigrated to the USA. We are still very close and get together often. We are only too aware of the medical horror stories they have told us over the years. I will just give you two examples of what happened to my cousins and their stories alone are enough to absolutely convince me the Canadian model is millions of times better than this for profit model.
That side of my family has a huge problem with bowel cancer. In the first generation that went to the USA almost half of them died from it. The same thing here in Canada too of course, almost half of them. Anyways my cousin JK was second generation, born in the USA. He had a tool and die business outside of Detroit and did very well. Had a nice home and was well off. In his 40s he got the cancer and was well taken care of through his insurance FOR A WHILE. To make a long story short, It took JK 20 years to eventually die from the disease. Over the time he lost his insurance when it came up for renewal, of course no one would insure a man with cancer. First they lost the business, then the house, then everything. Just before he died he had no money for even the pain medications he needed. After he died his wife was left destitute and basically homeless. She had to move in with one of her daughters in Florida. So, if you like a system that can do this to a person then YOU CAN HAVE IT. I want nothing at all to do with it.
Another cousin of mine had a premature baby with major problems, in the mid 70s. He was a young guy just out of school and did not have good insurance. By the time he died 27 years later he was still in debt for this birth and still paying for it. Great system I tell you, just wonderful!!!!
Sure, and for decades doctors were flocking TO the United States from other countries. Wonder why...?
Now, my doctor says he's leaving the practice of medicine because he can't give his patients the care and attention he wants due to the patient per-hour quota he has to meet. It's going to get worse, as people become numbers in the system.

Six months just to see a doctor ....Why don't I believe you?......"I'm an actual Canadian", and I could see my doctor today, but if I'm in a hurry I could see one within 1/2 hour at one of our many clinics...What are warrants?

No, they are not objective.

So, health care is cheaper in other countries? The data from European Commission of the European Units refutes that.

By 2020, the average EU country will need to raise the tax rate to 55 percent of national income to pay promised benefits.
■ By 2035, a tax rate of 57 percent will be required. ■ By 2050, the average EU country will need more than 60 percent of its GDP to fulfill its obligations.
However, only 37% of the procedures overall were completed within the requested waiting time.
Interpretation: Patients awaiting cardiac catheterization may experience major adverse events, such as death, myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure, which may be preventable. Our findings provide a benchmark by which to measure the effect of increased capacity and prioritization schemes that allow earlier access for patients at higher risk, such as those with aortic stenosis and reduced left ventricular function.
Facts hurt.....
