He made the correct decision. The bill would never have stood up to SCOTUS to begin with, and it would have been political suicide for him, even in California.

agreed.
BUT, what about the "gun control" bills he DID sign? I heard there were a few, and the likelihood is that SCOTUS will strike some of them down.
Well, so much for leftist extremists who want to rid us of guns......
Sure, one veto, and decades of prior history is swept aside. Clinton's gun ban, Obama's call for a ban on all semi-autos, Feinstein's call to 'turn them all in.' All should now be ignored because of this one veto.

It's a mixed bag. He did veto a few others that were rather draconian, but signed off on the restriction of lead bullets for hunting and the sale of kits to convert magazines. I can't personally see anything wrong with the banning of lead bullets, as there are much better materials available for hunting rounds, and the conversion kits aren't that reliable to begin with. Haven't dug into all of the passed and vetoed legislation yet, and honestly I probably won't since the odds of me even visiting California are somewhat higher than my odds of winning the lottery. It is nice to see that even a California politician can be somewhat sensible, though.
What makes a better hunting bullet than a copper clad lead core?
What will allow the expansion that a lead cored bullet has?
How big of a bullet will it be at 180 Grains weight? Will it fit the chamber of a bolt-action .30-06?
How about a 350 grain bullet for a lever-action .45-70 rifle? A 405 grain bullet for the same caliber?
What element will give the same, or nearly the same, ballistics as lead?
I see problems on the horizon for California hunters...

He'll be fine and will get re-elected. Even though the CA state legislature has a super majority, I'm surprised that he's actually standing up to them from time to time. He's turned out to be a lot more moderate than I expected he would be. He's still a buffoon, but not a crazy one.
