I'm in the UK and you are entitled to a minimum of 28 days paid leave......that's 5.6 weeks - using the premises that the normal working week is 5 days.
Some (a lot) companies offer considerably more than that, but no job will ever be less than that.
Self employed people aren't entitled to paid leave as a right.....obviously they are self employed and take time off as and when they can afford it.
Part time workers have the same rights as full time workers regarding leave entitlement, sickness and pension......pro rata for their hours.
Often there is provision for unpaid holiday too if you want it.
Women are entitled to 52 weeks of maternity leave - some companies will pay women 6 months full pay and 6 months half.....but the minimum entitlement for pay is 6 weeks @ 90% and then 33 weeks at about the equivalent of about $220 a week plus you get tax you paid before maternity leave back each week too.
My daughter is on maternity leave now and she is on statutory pay.....including getting some of her taxes back each week she gets the equivalent of around $1300 a month - which means she can afford to stay at home with the baby for 39 weeks of the 52 weeks she is entitled to be off.
Men can have 2 weeks paid paternity leave or 26 weeks if the woman returns to work.....so a couple can split the 52 week maternity entitlement....which is good if the woman is the main earner.
These social benefits are good for the employee but not so good for the employer - especially maternity leave.....I guess if you had a poll in the UK it would be mainly employers who would want to get rid of annual leave or maternity/paternity leave......
I'm early retired and in my last job I was entitled to a 38 days annual leave.....8 of those were used for Public holidays but I had 6 weeks left. I usually used them all.
