I would have no problem basing vacation time based upon productivity. A slackers vacation should reflect his job performance. Every alpha personality would celebrate. Unfortunately the entitlement minded would end up owing extra days of work after ending up in the minus column
I have no idea how anyone can work an entire year with just a week or so off.
The longest "vacation" I've had in five years is the four day weekend we get over Thanksgiving each year. This year, we're scheduling a surgery for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, to give my girlfriend as much time to recover as possible before she starts up work again on that following Monday.
Twice in the last five years we've taken advantage of a three day weekend to go somewhere out of state - both times it was to scout out cities we were thinking of moving to, so not really a vacation.
I'm not complaining - this is the path I chose, and I would do the same thing if I had the opportunity to go back and change it.
Just remember, as you work your part time job and travel 4-5 months out of the year, you have no right to complain about people not doing "their fair share." I don't know which way you lean politically, but with that schedule, it's not likely that you're paying into the system very much, and it would be extremely hypocritical if you were to complain about any tax paying entity, whether it's a person or business, not contributing enough for you to maintain that lifestyle indefinitely.
Well here in Germany the belief is that an employee needs a fair amount of vaction to work at his potential and thus it is benefical to give ample time off.

Well that and a fetish for Diaper porn. Just kidding. I loved my time spent in Germany. Germany has amazing beer amazing people and damned good food.
Are we talking about UNPAID vacation? 2 weeks... PAID vacations? 0 weeks... the employer isn't here to pay you for not working, no matter how much liberals would like to be paid for not working... two weeks for unpaid because everyone needs a vacation from work and two weeks is a fair number except for those who don't want to work, and people who don't want to work shouldn't be rewarded for wanting not to work...
Interesting that only Liberals like the benefit of paid vacations.
That bit of conservastupidity gets you sent to the ignore list.

German workers pride themselves on working hard while they are at work...

Does it make sense to apply to a job that offers 2 weeks of paid vacation a year and later complain that you don't get enough vacation time?
