a better statesmen until recently, Carter was and still is the worst we have ever had.
He has become the 3rd worst, with Wilson being THE worst for allowing the FRB to be created America's Worst President Ever | The National Interest and our current and last president, and Nixon rounding out the top 5 worst.
I miss Reagan and Slick Willy. I fear Slick Wifey though.
Well, let's face it, for modern presidents it's either Carter or Dubya, I have to give it to Carter because Dubya got a second term. The Failings under Dubya were not readily apparent to the public or to Dubya himself. There was a prevailing feeling among the US public that Saddam should have been taken out in Desert Storm, and that invading Iraq might be worthwhile in making the region safer. Who knew that the new Iraq president would be a dip stick, that the new Iraq army would cowardly retreat from Mosul and give it to ISIS, that Iran would move in and steal oil wells, ect ect. Also with the housing crash, who would have known (besides that one woman in the SEC that everyone laughed at) that repealing Glass Steagall would open up a whole rat's nest of crooked banking and investment practices, eventually causing the housing crisis. Liberals and conservatives together voted to kill Glass Steagall. That blame falls wide, not just Dubya.
Dubya was providing leadership, or the illusion of having some type of plan and coarse of action to take, the surge was temporarily working to stabilize Iraq, when he left office the fighting in Iraq was subdued. It was up to the next administration to decide the important question of how many troops to leave in Iraq and for how long. Even with Iraq fragmented, one of the underlying goals of the Iraq war was accomplished, in that Iraq went back on the petrodollar system of selling oil in US dollars, from a US perspective that is a major goal achieved by Dubya, and it still remains intact today. And Iraq's government is still there, weak but not yet finished.
Carter the peanut farmer trashed the farm economy with his grain embargo. His leadership was very weak, the national economy (on the surface) was much worse under Carter than GW. We had double digit inflation, high interest rates, high unemployment, I remember all of that very well. There was no hope under Carter, and Reagan brought relief for most of the nation (but not farm and manufacturing).
The real heir to the throne of Iran, a standup guy for democracy and best hope for Iran, Reza Pahlavi, son of the old Shah of Iran, resides here in the US instead of in Iran where he belongs, thanks to Carter's weakness. Also for those that think Obama was the worst, I haven't seen a stronger farm economy than what we've had under Obama, since the days of Richard The Great. For Iowa, the '08 recession was just a blip compared to much of the country, and his alternative (wind) energy policy has been helpful to our state, and much of the Midwest/Plains, and oil states like Texas never had much of a recession either until the recent oil crash. Remember when Obama went into his car salesman pitch after the GM bailout? Cash for clunkers was still better than the stuff Carter did (nothing).
Who wants to talk about Jimmy carter job creation record?
