The country needs a conversation about death and the end of life cost. I can see in the future where assisted suicide will be a hot campaign issue and one day be legal in all 50 states. I have visited nursing homes on many occasions and it looks to me that most people there are miserable. If the people had a chance I would bet 50% of them would choose to die with dignity.
Well that's scientific enough for me. If they frown, yank the plug!
Wow. It's a little harsh wanting us to die, don't you think?
Goodness, can't wait til you youngsters get old. Karma is a *****.
By the time they get old, judging from the attitudes of the hellions they're raising, their kids will be rushing for legislation that will allow them to proactively kill their parents.
Interesting - Not one message on the spending power of the boomers. People who own businesses are aware of this. Here's a little article about it with some information:
Baby Boomers:
• Have more discretionary income (wealth) than any other age group
• Control 70% of the total net worth of American households - $7 trillion of wealth
• Own 80% of all money in savings and loan associations
• Spend more money disproportionately to their numbers
• Are not fanatically loyal to brands
• Watch television more than any other age group
• Read newspapers more than any other age group
• Account for a dramatic 40% of total consumer demand
I read in a Forbes article that Baby Boomers are spending a lot of money taking care of their adult children, among other things, who are struggling to make it. Baby Boomers spend about $2 trillion a year.
Like it or not, they are a great market. They are health conscious and spend a lot of money on the health industry. They are going to be around for a long time.
I think the world will be a better place, yes. Their greed and spending habits are what put our economy in the mess it is today. To a Boomer, if you can't afford something then put it on a credit card and pay for it later. Such attitudes lead to a crippling of down the road and we very much see that today.
You do know that we have had money deducted from our checks for Medicare our entire working lives, don't you? That means it has been deducted from my check for 40years, since I am56 and started working when I was 16.
It's not an entitlement; it is something we have paid into, the same as Social Security. That is very different than Medicaid, welfare and food stamps and different than free housing, food, education, and healthcare for people who aren't even US citizens.
Medicare pays out $3 for every $1 collected in taxes.
I was once very young, then got a little older, and "before I knew" it I was older than I like. I still got a ways to go. My whole point? If you are lucky you too will be old so be careful what you wish for. If you don't respect the elderly maybe the rest of us will be lucky and you won't ever be one because your attitude stinks.
