It has nothing to do with with being effeminate, it has to do with fitting in culturally.
The black kids who liked Baseball, wore Hollister and liked mud riding fit in far better with other white kids than those of us who did not like those things.
There are some elements of this. I have a brother. Between my siblings and me, my younger brother fit in the best. He could hang out with the Black kids, as well as the White kids. He played basketball and football in middle school. He also played baseball in high school(currently plays baseball in college, I'm not telling anyone where though). He wore Hollister. He wasn't into mud riding, but he has occasionally tried dipping tobacco. He speaks with standard American English. However, he can speak Black Vernacular English, and he listens to rap music. He knew how to hang with "the cool kids".
Uh; that's weird since we def have some Black ladies here, unless they're more accepted here than the "brothers". Tho we def have some Black dudes here too who also date "out".
The article doesn't really touch on culture or ethnicity.
For example,it seems biracial black/white kids of any sex have it easier in the suburbs than black kids.
Sad to say,I believe actual skin color does too.
Lighter skin kids might have it easier.
You just made me think about something else as well. I thought about Blacks of foreign extraction. There were maybe a few in my high school(around 4 or 5), and they all seemed to fit in quite well, even more so and some of the Black American students. This is at least what I saw in my high school.

Idk i live in the suburbs and pretty much everyone had it well and everyone got along.
Its the ghetto kids from the city that didn't fit in, but of course the race baiters randomly had turn it into a racial thing.
Even though I am still a nerdy black woman I can be "abrasive" with people who are jerks or who are idiots. I am not loud, but I don't like dealing with a lot of crap from people and I feel that it is a good skill to have - being blunt and getting to the point. I also think many people get their feelings hurt too easily.
FWIW, I have dated white men in the past and got along just fine with them. But I like "manly men" so to speak and not some sensitive, easily hurt feelings male.
I hear you, Ive tried dating black women too, and like you said you can get along with them, but its just not a good match. Non black males are just not a good match with black women as we are too sensitive and might get our feelings hurt by "abrasive" black females.
