The ex-CEO of United Healthcare received 1.8 billion in severance pay, so it's not out of the realm of possibility, at least for him, but if suddenly you were in possession on that amount of fiat currency, what would you do? (to coin a phrase by John Quinones).

Research and give most of it to charities. I wish I wouldn't have to give a dime to the government. I'd keep millions for myself and family.

I'm all for giving to good charities, hate the idea of the government taking and wasting peoples money. Charities are a much better option than welfare, failing programs, etc

I'd set my immediate family up first. Trust funds for the great-great-great, etc., grandkids too. Pay off some good friends mortgages, take care of their kids college funds. Make their lives a little easier no matter how well they are already doing or not.

I'd definitely give at least $5M to my kids school (as it's my alma mater and my kids are 3rd generation). The school would crap it's pants.

Invest few hundred million somewhere and live off the interest (after ripping out my kitchen and putting in a state of the art gourmet/chef's dream).

Then I'd have to figure out which charities are worthy of large donations. I don't know that I'd want to start my own foundation. Probably when I got bored of having it so easy I'd look in to that.

That's such crazy money it's hard to comprehend.

I'd like to know what the ex-CEO of UHC is going to do with it all.

the first thing i would do is make sure my family and my friends were well set for life. the next thing would be to set up a few trust funds to make sure that i am set for life.

after that i would set up trust funds for various charities like the salvation army hospitality house, the red cross, st judes, wounded warriors, and perhaps two or three others.

then i would start, or buy, a few businesses and set them up so that the profits from those businesses would help fund the charitable trusts.

beyond that, who knows.
