After reading the article, I find out this girl is prego with her 2nd child, is only 21 and is a nursing student. Where's the husband?

What she really needs is a lesson in personal finance.
She obviously has some problems with making impulse decisions, both personally and financially. She also needs to learn something about delayed gratification.

I just shake my head.

Last I checked this was the U.S.A. Yes, it's foolish to spend that kind of money on a purse but is it a crime?

Did the young lady commit a crime when she purchased that bag?

Did she deserve to be hand-cuffed and taken to a police station?

That is the ENTIRE issue. Not whether YOU personally feel that she should spend her money in a more productive manner.

Yes she does need a lesson in financial planning but would someone as elevated as you condescend to give her one or do you just sit high on your throne of superiority and talk trash about people on CD?

A whole lot of judgemental people acting like they are judge, jury, and executioner on CD.

I think you should approach every woman with an expensive purse and demand a personal accounting. Ask to see her payroll stubs, her bank statements and a breakdown of her budget.
It's your duty as an American citizen.

Racial profiling: Big problem. Spending $2500 on a purse? As long as she spent her own money on that, and not mine, none of our business.

Whether it's right or wrong to spend $2500 on a purse is a matter of individual opinion. I'm sure some will see nothing wrong with it and others will be outraged at the extravagant excess.

I fit in the last category. However, it's the person's money, and so I have nothing in response, except to remind myself "Don't be that dumb with your money".

Of course racial profiling and calling the cops on a legitimate customer is the bigger issue. People can waste their money on what ever they want. Many people waste more than that on beer and cigarettes, or the latest cell phone and airtime, or a wedding ring, or a down payment on car they can barely make the payments on. Go pick on those people.

As to whether "racial profiling" is going on. How can you be sure? Perhaps it's "economic profiling". You know, why salesmen don't run out to greet and entertain the homeless guy wandering by the Lexus dealership.

The accusation seems more born out of a sense of wanting to find something to be angry about...

This LOL. The OP should be our spend gestapo I guess.

I personally don't care what other people spend their money on.

My wife has quite a few expensive purses. Her newest is a Dior bag that cost over $4200. She has a closet full of bags with an average price of $2500-$3000 each.
