They wanted to volunteer their time and work at the soup kitchen, not just donate items... which by the way they refused to donate unless they were allowed to work to hand them out to people.

Our Mission
We seek to serve the poor and homeless of our community

by sharing the love of God and giving them:

Food for Their Bodies,

Kindness for Their Souls, &

Hope for the Future.
What part of that works out for atheists?

How do you think this group would feel if a Baptist church group showed up and wanted to volunteer for one of their events just to "help people"?

I don't think they would even ask what religion they are. The focus is helping the poor, isn't it?

Why don't they start their own soup kitchen?

Seems logical to me.

Or maybe they could find a soup kitchen not associated with religion? Just a thought.

So let them start their own charity. They just wanted to stir up ****, otherwise they could have donated their supplies with the quiet dignity that should be used when helping others. Bunch of attention seeking whores.

Here's their mission statement:

Upstate Atheists is a non-profit organization that strives to make the upstate a better place.

We do this by volunteering, helping those in need, doing charity work, and participating in occasional advocacy projects.

Now just what kind of "occasional advocacy projects" are they talking about with a name like "Upstate Atheists"?

Have you read their website? Even the link you posted is pretty clear that their mission/focus/goal/whatever is based around a belief in God.
