Of course it makes sense in terminal cases. However, what happens when the panel decides that someone who needs a transplant should die because there are just too many men (or women) in the world, or because of someone's political affiliation? What happens when the panel is packed with Party Politburos?
I have seen elderly folks kept alive, against their will, after severe strokes and other health conditions. Doctors urged them to let her pass, but they wanted her social security check.
Sometimes, not often, some needs to be able to say enough.

Agreed. How about stopping a teabaggers' heart transplant because the world would be better off if there was one less obstructionist anarchist teabagger in the world? I'm sure one can convince the room temperature IQ folks of this being a good thing. That heart could instead go to a starry eyed 20 something progressive who could do good in the world.

That would be stupid. But when a 80 year old woman signs a dnr, and her daughter gets a lawyer to overturn it so she could continue getting social security for the next 5 years as her mother lived in a personal hell in a bed, alone, unable to move, and all she wanted was to die. She had several events over the next 5 years, doctors begged Marthas daughter to let her pass. Nope. Gotta have that check. She didn't even cry at her funeral.

Again, agreed.
However, why would it be stupid to favor a younger progressive person with plenty left to contribute versus an old geezer teabagger when it comes to a heart transplant? Sounds logical to me.

Should someone with a terminal disease be given a transplant organ that could go to a healthier person in need of a transplant?
I remember when working in the hospital a man was on the ventilator. He was on the government dole and when he died the family was really upset because they actually said "now what are we going to do we won't get his checks anymore"
