Interesting read that has come through the efforts of Eric Snowden to inform Americans on what our government is doing. This article has to do with some of the fraudulent tactics used by OUR government against its own citizens to keep them uninformed and to block whisteblowers and alternative media from gaining foot.
According to Glenn Greenwald the NSA and GCHQ disrupt media and engage in dirty tricks against enemies in a number of ways, including:

• “Ability to artificially increase traffic to a website” (GATEWAY) and “ability to inflate page views on websites” (SLIPSTREAM)
• “Amplification of a given message, normally video, on popular multimedia websites (Youtube)” (GESTATOR)
• “Targeted Denial Of Service against Web Servers” (PREDATORS FACE) and “Distributed denial of service using P2P. Built by ICTR, deployed by JTRIG” (ROLLING THUNDER)
• “A suite of tools for monitoring target use of the UK auction site eBay (www.ebay.co.uk)” (ELATE)
• “Ability to spoof any email address and send email under that identity” (CHANGELING)

The site and founder of the site claim to have been targeted by some of the tactics I believe. I also remember when the Occupy protest broke out, the government forcing google to take down certain videos. There's also been reports of "shrills" on the threads for a few years now.

The target can vary. Alternative media is a subjective term. May want to elaborate. There is a great deal of data out there.

MSM is very controlled by the government and usually abides with their requests.
It's been exposed that the NYTimes vets their articles through the WH before publishing.
Alternative news though is not afraid to tell us the dirty side, same as foreign news.
There's a heck of a lot of "news" that our US MSM are not telling us until it goes viral off of these other sites.
