I wish people would take the time to read the freaking link that the thread is based upon!

According to the linked article, a discussion started on line when one individual raised the issue about the bands racial/ethnic composition, that turned into a full blown online debate (that's what college is for) but according to the school the debate attracted non-students and there were concerns about safety and threats of disruption by what the school described as out-side factions. This was further exacerbated when the band itself became involved in the online controversy in what was described as in an antagonistic manner.

The Band was paid the full amount of their original contract.

Rock and roll isn't white music. It wasn't created by white people and it's earliest innovators weren't white.

Rock didn't start with the Beatles dude. SMH..

Gosh, I love this country. We have the right, under the First Amendment to that wonderful document called the Constitution, to bug the holy **** out of the far-right conservatives.

white musicians always copy black musicians.

elvis is revered by whites, even though he just copied what chuck berry was doing years before.

right now you have justin timberlake out pretending to be michael jackson.

Since Rock and Roll is not "white" music, the discussion would end right where you started it.

This goes for afro-pop, blues or reggae groups, especially when the musicians who created this music are not given the same opportunity to play and profit from the music of their own creation. But having said that I am also willing to give such bands the benefit of the doubt based upon their respect for the music, the musicians and cultures of the music that they are appropriating. So, I see NO problem with students or anyone else for that matter discussing the issue openly and honestly.

That is horrible. I think it is great when other ethnicities can appreciate the music of various types of people around the world.I wonder if they denounce white Jazz or Blues groups. I'm sure they don't denounce white Rock N Roll Bands or even gospel singers, all of those have black roots. This is really silly.I agree with AeroGuy for once as well and think it was probably linked to some uber liberal white person.

Oh well...I guess they just didn't "fit" in, now did they? Isn't that what your 'good ole boy' clubs are always saying?
