I just do not get President Obama.

Part of his push for the ACA has been to get rid of "pre existing conditions".

But President Obama failed to mention that the vast majority of Americans whether through their employers, medicare, medicaid, or VA/Tricare. All those types of insurance must accept patients with pre existing conditions. There may no wait time or up to a 12 month wait time for pre existing conditions. 15% of Americans have pre existing conditions. But only 5% of the US population (15 million) signs up for individual insurance. So doing your math. At most Obama is talking about 2 million people who may be excluded from insurance due to pre existing conditions. Right?

Insurance companies have denied claims for these individuals. So if someone has high blood pressure. For the individual market. Insurance may accept that individual but bar accepting any claims for anything relating to high blood pressure. But insurance will still pay for surgeries, other related health studies like cardiac caths etc.

But today, Obama is belittling the 5% on the individual market. He's saying most americans get healthcare through employers, medicare, medicaid, VA/tricare. And he's brushing aside that healthcare.gov problems only affect very little population of Americans. And he's also not even trying to mention the 5% of the population, most are getting their rates jacked. All he stated was "most" of those on individual market will have affordable insurance through "credits".

So what gives? How can Obama call the ACA a landmark law when he's really just going after the individual insurance market? Yet at the same time today, say that healthcare.gov affects so little of the US insurance population?

This ACA really is about the 5% individual market. Because the ACA excludes employees who get coverage through their employers even if its unaffordable (many smaller employers do not subsidize non working spouses or children). All the liberal commentators already state the ACA doesn't affect the 265 million of Americans who already have coverage.

The media, as usual are acting as the mouthpiece for the lying, conniving insurance companies who are really calling the shots on the ACA.

They are claiming to be dropping private policies because they do not conform to ACA standard. B.S.! They are acting like corporate institutions always do. Exploiting certain market environments to get away with doing what they may not easily get away with under less "favorable" conditions.

They are dumping undesirable policy holders. The same way that companies get rid of undesirable employees during economic downturns. Undesirable - meaning people who have claimed workers comp, taken disability leave, minorities, older workers, etc., people who have filed discrimination claims against them. So they jettison those folks under cover of alleged economic pressures.

So the media needs to stop spinning their lies, and the government needs to reckon with the fact that they were too scared to go up against Big Pharma and Big Insurance companies and make them do right by people.

Non ACA complaint policies by law cannot be sold after 1/1/14. Blame the people who signed it into law.

So do these numbers come from a real place, or just from thin air?

These are real numbers. Even President Obama was quoting these numbers during his Boston speech today.

Health Insurance Coverage of the Total Population | The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation

The more he defends his plan the worst he looks when he has to explain away he cons of the plans

Just like his attack on small businesses, the people who lost their insurance don't matter. The only people that matters is the baby mamas and the druggies.
