The reduction for a family of 4 receiving $660 a month [$165 per person] is $32 That's a 'deep' cut? It's 4.8% The official name of food stamps is SNAP as in S for supplemental and not O for only. And let's not forget the free lunch at school.
We should help the kids get some lunch, just not dinner huh?
Yep.Republicans again showing they don't give a crap about the poor. AWESOME! Just goes to show NORMAL PEOPLE have no party left to vote for in America. At least I don't. I am pro gun, anti abortion, anti war etc but pro free healthcare,SNAP,WIC,Welfare for the poor and needy....so I am everything the democrats and republicans hate.
You cant blame Republicans for this one because Dems enacted the SNAP boost with a deadline, and that deadline was yesterday. It was not meant to be permanent.

It's still needed... the stimulus helped big business and banks, but many of the casualties of the Recession are still in recession and need the help. Congress is the problem, in that they continue to do nothing to help those people recover. And, we know which party is most to blame for that congressional inaction, don't we?

GOP resorts to political sabotage, which is a great shame and hurts the country, but they didn't have to do anything about this SNAP thing, because it was going to expire with or without them. GOP has called 80% cuts to SNAP, and it does not sound like they understand what kind of effect such drastic cut would mean.
Now if if they would only rescind the Bush era tax cuts as well that were only supposed to be temporary also. It would go a loooong way at plugging the hole that added trillions to our national debt since they were never paid for.
The one thing everyone is missing. Food stamps are not to pay for your entire food needs for the month, it is ASSISTANCE in purchasing food for the month.
In theory all social programs are designed as a temporary means of getting through a rough patch until you get on your own two feet.
So while I am all for helping the physically disabled that cannot fend for themselves, many people have become dependent on social welfare programs and have no intention of ever getting off them. The social stigma of feeling embarrassed seems lost on them. Then again they may be part of a multiple generation of takers, and now feel entitled.
Just like the obese people who cannot leave their house have enablers to bring them food, so too are bleeding heart liberals nothing more than enablers for those who become dependent on society to take care of them.
Yup, it's all in your view of life. Some folks will view my video in post #151 and say, "We can't let people starve, even if there are a few cheats in the system." Others will view your video in post #158 and say, "I'd rather see a few folks starve than let a cheat get away with scamming."
Meanwhile, no one complains about the "food stamps" (tax relief) provided to dozens of corporations like the oil and gas industry (they are suffering so, so much) which amounts to almost 50% more than all the welfare provided in the nation today.
Quote:
About $59 billion is spent on traditional social welfare programs. $92 billion is spent on corporate subsidies. So, the government spent 50% more on corporate welfare than it did on food stamps and housing assistance in 2006.
I would rather see them prosecute food stamp fraud then make cuts across the board. They should also put more restrictions on the types of items that can be purchased.
Reductions vary, but for a family of four in Illinois currently receiving the maximum benefit of $668 per month, that amount will drop to $632. Meanwhile, a single person will see benefits lowered from a maximum of $200 per month to $189.
Give me a very large break, too, with all the expected sob stories featured on the evening news shows about how this cut--as noted, implemented as a temporary recession-era increase (when seniors got zipbut that's another story)--will impact children.
One issue never addressed is why, when schools provide breakfasts, lunches, and summer food programs for kids, the food stamp grant is not reduced to allow for that.
With programs in every state, no child is starving in this country. If any are, they should be removed from whomever it is that's receiving a monthy allowance on his or her behalf.
Your feeble attempt to lay a guilt trip on me has failed.
