Most people buy fresh produce when they can. That is not living the high life. Who do you know that buys canned fruit and vegetables? I don't know anyone. I guess you buy it though.
Who doesn't buy canned? For one thing you can't get fresh all the time.
I can make this statement because it is my opinion. I am entitled to one that is different from yours no matter what you believe. Also, this is just an end to a temporary increase. It was put into place with the knowledge that it would end, and it has.
if it is an opinion that is fact based it has merit, if it is just an opinion based upon zero actual stats, it's just that...an opinion, but certainly you are entitled to a baseless opinion. The Bush tax cuts were extended to benefit the rich based upon a pledge made to lobbyist Grover Norquist, but an extra few bucks for food is over the top...no extension for the poor, working poor and disabled based upon a 1.3% fraud issue. What is your opinion on that? Is that fair?

I always buy fresh, but the say that frozen can even healthier if it is quick frozen as it spends less time exposed to the air on its way to market. If you can purchase local grown it is way better than produce that has traveled a great distance for that very reason. Canned loses many nutrients and is usually packed with a high salt content. They do taste dead...IMO and there is also the issue of what the cans are lined with.

Nobody but nobody buys canned...the stores just had empty shelves they needed to fill up with something.
DelMonte and Libby just has all these extra empty cans laying around so they filled them with whatever was laying around...happened to be some old fruit and vegetables
It is pretty obvious to me, that almost no one on this thread has used EBT.
1. You buy canned veggies, because they are cheaper, and easier to transport. And keep longer. After all, if you took the para-transit bus to the store, you only want to shop once or twice in a month.

Where do you live? Practically everyone I know, including myself, buys canned fruits and vegetables.
