The reason why tougher gun laws will not prevent this type of thing from happening is because this country is already saturated with guns. Even if they stopped all sale of guns today, there are still enough guns floating around to keep these shooters happy. Of course if the possibility of tougher gun laws is a nonstarter, removing existing guns from the hands of owners is not even worth mentioning. Let's just accept the fact that gun violence is just another inextricable facet of American life.
By the way, it's probably more effective giving TSA agents bullet proof vests if they are concerned about preserving lives. Even if all TSA agents had guns, if a guy goes through a security checkout Matrix style, the first agent he targets will still have zero chance to return fire.
I am no lefty and am quite outraged. It's sick and disgusting.
As a responsible gun owner the question continues to come up in my mind.
WTH do we allow the general public to have more firepower at the ready then the cops?
Why haven't we, as a society, learned our lesson after the North Hollywood bank robbery. After that every Sgt could carry an AR-15? why not every cop?
I travel and I have never seen a US LEO in airport, during a normal situation, carrying a long gun.
Germany does it right IMO. They have a 2 man security patrols in Frankfurt. One LEO has an MP5 sub machine gun and the other LEO, who is fluent in several languages, carried what appeared to be a Glock. Why don't we allow our LEO's to carry more firepower in an airport when an civilian can walk in with a legally purchased long gun and gun battle the cops with inferior weapons?
