What war have we fought since 1945 that's been justified or in the interest of defending our country from harm or conquest?

Just following orders wasn't an excuse in 1945, and it shouldn't be an excuse in 2013. Our sanctions on Iraq plus the 2 wars probably killed more Iraqis than Saddam's regime killed. While I'm not defending Saddam, why didn't we declare war on Suharto who killed a million of his own people between 1965 and 1997? Oh yeah, because the United States put him there since they preferred his free market policies over those of Sukarno.

I'm not cold hearted. I'm not gonna spit on the soldiers, and it makes me angry so many of them are denied the help and benefits they rightly deserve by having served their government and corporate masters. They're people too and they have rights and should be treated nicely. But I'm not gonna thank them for their service, just because they got off the Call of Duty and got to fight in a real war and kill real people. Our military goes way beyond self defense of the nation.

So yeah, I'm not gonna give a person a standing ovation just because they served in our bully army.
And most troops wouldn't want the likes of you giving a standing ovation. Now we can all move on.

Yes, the pingers as we used to call them, or the newbies, some were definitely foolish, but two to three weeks into training, they evolve and learn how to follow orders, and most importantly, discipline and team work. While stationed at a couple of different bases, I'd seen some people who, evidently, had no desire to comply who were freshly out of basic.

In fact, one fellow who disliked his career field so much, he decided to take matters into his own hands to switch career fields. He was classified as a pavements maintenance specialist, and was very very book smart, but he basically knew nothing of operating machines. One midshift, he was assigned to a deuce and a half dump truck and a towed runway snow sweeper. He thought that if he did some damage to something, the career adviser and section first shirt would recommend him a career change. It worked.

He took down 52 runway lights @ Eielson AFB, and he was quickly transferred to the chow hall, as a cook-chef.

But, back to the topic here, many people join the military for various reasons, unemployment, underemployment, to obtain a college education, some think about the benefits the military has to offer and really have a desire to make careers out of it.

I really don't feel any military member is "over rated", we should be thankful that people are willing to join up and serve. Being a military member is not an easy life either, it's tough on families and sometimes tough for the member him/her self. But as long as you're tough and feel you can handle your duties assigned, you can make a good living.

You really know how to light a fire under people don't you?

Do us all a favor, go enlist, then come back in about 20 years and tell us all about your experiences serving, since it seems you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.

GD I fricken can't stand libs sometimes. Why don't you just spit on the over 4,000 graves already? Just get yourself a ticket, and go to the cemetery, and spit all over them because WHY they died apparently matters so much to you.
Yes, why troops die does and should matter. Not sure why you go on a tirade about liberals. My veteran father has been wondering for 45 years why friends of his died.

The Downing Street Memo :: What is it?
IT. Doesn't. Fricken. Matter! I'm not going to get up on my high horse and say that I will not appreciate them just because I don't like the "war" that they are in. I'm not that arrogant. This thread was not titled, "Do you support the wars the troops were in", it was titled, "Do you think the troops are overrated?" And of course, you can't even stay on topic, you are too eager to bash on an administration that hasn't been in office for six flippin' years. We get it, you didn't like Bush. WE GOT IT. What the F does that have to do with supporting the troops?

Supporting the troops does NOT mean you support what the idiots did that put them out there. Those are two separate things. As has been mentioned on this very post, those troops did NOT make the decision on which wars to fight.

If you have gd beef with the administration that put them there, and keeps them there, then take it up with that administration, but STOP acting like the troops lives meant NOTHING just because you didn't like WHY they were there.

Again, you fricken libs disgust me. You are incapable of understanding....well, pretty much anything...but that the troops, and the administration that you hate so much, ARE NOT THE SAME.
