Publix called, and explained that they will put the decorations up, including a Christmas tree, and will stop saying "Happy Holidays" and will actually say: "Merry Christmas"! (No they won't say: "Merry Christmas instead of "Happy Thanksgiving"!)

Thanks Publix!

@3 Wolves: Look, if you, (or anyone else for that matter) don't want to see these decorations out this early, I think you can do the same thing I did. You can write them an email, and explain that we have to go through Thanksgiving and 2, 3 weeks tops is sufficient for people to buy their decorations. Plus, most folks I think buy their decorations AFTER Christmas (Halloween, etc) because they are even cheaper then. This particular thread/situation was where "someone" wanted Publix NOT to display any Christmas stuff at all, ever again. It was not about how early they display it.

Walmart is the first one to display Christmas stuff. Always been, and sure looks like always will. I don't shop there often, so I don't care. Target had their Christmas stuff creep out early too.

We don't buy any Christmas stuff because we already bought it, and I don't see any reason to buy new each year unless something breaks. I would also never buy them at a grocery store...makes little sense. I think those are there for "last minute" folks maybe? I don't know anyone who would buy any Christmas stuff at Publix.

(Annie you can close it now if you want to)

Except that it isn't one day.

Officially, Christians celebrate Advent which precedes Christmas and also celebrate during the interim between Christmas and Epiphany (Jan 6th.) which marks the visit by the Three Wise Men.

There are of course parallels in Judiaism; Passover is longer than one day as is Chanukah.

Remember when Macy's, Alexander's, etc. would decorate over night Thanksgiving night so that when you went in to shop on the Friday, it was Christmas!

When I was a kid, it was so magical. I think that it is too bad that we no longer get to experience that.

The song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" cracks me up. As soon as the shopping is done and the presents (material junk) are opened, the holiday seems to be pretty much over these days.

I mean really? people have nothing better to complain about?

At my kids school this poor kid couldn't decorate a pumpkin because the "parents don't believe in holidays"? WTH!!!
Such outrage of religious fanatics and non religious, over a mythical person, and a mythical event. I'm

Christmas has never been anything more than about companies and corporations selling junk to stupid followers to give to other stupid followers of a myth, while laughing at them all the way to a bank.

There also are no Easter Bunnies or tooth fairies.

Where is your evidence to back up that claim? Again, all you heard was a couple of checkers talking. C'mon, you have co-workers, you know they get things wrong, or over dramatize them....it's not different than City Data. Provide factual evidence that shows that the person who wrote the letter stated that they did not want the store to put up decorations, "at all" "ever again".

Someone told me they were Jehova's Witnesses or something of that nature...they brought their religion to school, and the school had to figure out how to accommodate for that! The school was already decorating, and celebrating Halloween! (All tho Halloween is not a religious holiday per what I know; so what was wrong with decorating a Pumpkin?).

Here's the thing; if we have these sects complaining about Christmas decorations, (which is quite silly IMO) then no decorations should go up for any other Holiday...Halloween, Valentine's day, Easter, 4th of July etc, all of these have been lumped together and every single grocery store decorates for each one. What's next? someone that got dumped complaining about Valentine's day to Publix, and asks Publix to stop baking heart shaped cupcakes? This is one of those instances where one idiot has to ruin it for everyone else...nothing more.
Maybe the parents didn't have day care available for that day. Who knows why they sent the child to school instead of keeping him home? Maybe the local JW church should provide day care on those days. However, the idea of a school devoting an entire day to celebrating Halloween or any other holiday is a little mind-boggling as well. My school district allows two holiday parties a year and they are confined to the last hour of the day. One of these parties wasHalloween at my kids' elementary school; kids would bring their costumes and put them on right before the party.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? Americans Divided on That, Too

Retailers urging Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas?-Truth! & Fiction!

I am not sure if it is out of pure boredom or what, but why can't we leave things alone exactly?

I relayed the story as I heard it told to me, and considering the history of this issue as seen above, it wasn't hard to react to it!

What does that have to do with your claim that someone wrote to the store and demanded that they take all decorations down and never put them up again, "at all" "ever again"?
