America needs to look around the world and take note of the countries that don't carry out state murder. And it IS state murder - irrespective of the degree to which the individual deserves it.

The possibility of killing an innocent person is enough justification itself to ban this disgusting practice.
There are people in this world who kill. Some no doubt are mentally ill but I seriously wonder if that cuts much ice with the US legal system.

Those types of people aside, murderers should be removed from society - i.e.Jailed
THE LAST THING WE SHOULD DO IS COPY THEM !

At who's expense?
Are YOU going to pay for his incarceration, etc,?

Society has to pay - just like it pays for all the rest of incarcerated criminals.
You don't choose that responsibility, you have it.

As usual the dirty work of killing people is not done by any of the higher ups it's offloaded to prison staff as I understand it. Doctors won't do it and nor should they.

As I said, the possibility of killing an innocent is the perfect argument against state killing, but not the only one.

Suppose your son or other loved one was accused of murder and sentenced to death and you knew for a fact he was innocent but couldn't prove it - how exactly would you feel about that?

Well that's ok he had a fair trial? I don't think so.

And let's not pretend it doesn't happen - it does. Or is it ok to kill an innocent now and then as long as the majority are guilty? Not really a good answer to that is there.

I'm sorry, but capital punishment is indefensible, and is recognised by the vast majority of the Western World as such.
This is in no way being soft on killers, I would hit them hard jailwise but kill them? No.
No judge or court has the moral authority to instruct an ordinary person to be a killer.

Many people on this forum probably think I'm far-right, despite being a registered Independent voter or the fact that I donate to organizations like The Equal Justice Initiative, etc. They'd be surprised to learn that I don't support the death penalty - precisely because of cases like this, as well as a plethora of cases championed by organizations like The Innocence Project. Our criminal justice system isn't perfect and death is very final.
