Well the truth is her insurance carrier, United Healthcare (mine too) DID decide to leave the individual market in California. They had a small footprint here compared to BCBS. They could choose to sell a policy off the exchange, as Cigna is doing in some parts of the state, but are sitting out this year for reason of their own. They may be back later. They are making business decisions for themselves and, yes, it's a direct result of the new ACA guidelines AND the particular rules of the state of California. She also has the ability to keep her doctors, but with a different insurance company. All in all it IS just a "something is changing and I don't like it" moment. While I sympathize with her because I'm going to be in a similar situation at some point it's the STAGE IV CANCER that's killing her, nothing else. The higher cost of insurance is going to be felt by many, sick and healthy.
I also wish things I liked stayed the same and resist change and acknowledge that some changes just make my life more difficult. I'm looking at you Windows 8.
