I am not a TP person. But the "movement" appears to have its positions grossly twisted by the media and the people opposed to the TP. There is no single website that represents the movement. But Tea Party Patriots |Tea Party Patriots and Tea Party Movement Platform post core beliefs or positions. No hot bed social issues are on the list. Silent on gay marriage. Silent on abortion. Silent on government and religion.
The positions by and large are about the size of the government and the emphasis on the Constitution.
Exactly. Only those who choose to remain uninformed and therefore allow themselves to be duped by those with an agenda are under the impression that the Tea Party has any social agenda whatsoever.
Democrats are neither ignorant, nor freeloaders. Just because we are for a live and let live social agenda, and prefer to feed children and protect the elderly, provide the ability to get basic health care and insist on freedom for all citizens makes it appear that by voting democrat that someone would get something for free. Democrats want the scales to be tilted towards the citizens rather than the corporate structure. We also agree that many programs have gotten unwieldy and too expensive, but not even close to what is spent by the war machine and corporate welfare. Each and EVERY program needs to be cut, reformed, eliminated or improved. NO ONE government program, either benefitting the right or left should be untouched.

Freedom is for everybody. It isn't the purpose of government to guarantee "equality," which only guarantees that some people will not be treated equally — for example, those that they rob to distribute their wealth to those who didn't earn it, nor do they deserve it.
They're just a loosely organized group of overly emotional fringe right wingers. Typically, they're ignorant hypocrites who elect people in the primaries who are either too fringe to win office or too inflexible to get anything done when in office.
The undue influence they put forward is putting tea baggers in seats in Congress as many of the seats are rigged. They are, however, having a negative impact on a state and city level in terms of the number of Republicans in office. This is not likely to change until someone fixes congressional districts to the point where the seats are actually competitive again.
Actually, the Tea Party people I know are very well educated.
The 'Tea Party' has been quite successful across this nation in getting people elected to office. Where are you getting your info? Just making it up? I thought so.
Further more, wise guy, Republicans gained seats in 2010, and we have increased the number of states that have Republican governors, and Republican controlled legislatures.
Let's get one thing clear, the "Tea Party" did not shut the government down, the Democrats did and every rational thinker knows that. They right chose to fund the government except for Obamacare and the Democrats did not choose to compromise ONE BIT!!
And I agree with hoffdano, they media has done a great hatchet job on the Tea Party.
They'll keep up with that mantra even though it just makes them look foolish.
Who had a gun? I must have missed that part. The compromise could have and should have come long before a shutdown happened. As it turns out the ACA was not ready to be rolled out anyway. Both sides elected to shut the Gov down. Both sides had the power to prevent a shut down and neither side opted to do so. Only hard liners are giving anyone a free pass on this.
These people are really stupid. They have no argument, but they keep trying to make one using the same facts and hoping you'll change your mind.
I'm not sure if its attitudes and/or positions on some social issues are the only reason why the Tea Party lost support. After all, causing the government shutdown, refusing to compromise, and only supporting cuts in spending rather than that and tax raises on the wealthy are all things which could have likewise caused the Tea Party to lose support over the last four years.

Talking about rigging - wasn't the Virginia Governor's race rigged by the Democrats so a Tea Partier wouldn't win. The dems are showing their true colors and their fear that people might actually be fed up with all the handouts and blame games the party is guilty off - and I'm a democrat - but voted almost a straight republican ticket last Tues as our Democratic Town Council so graciously finally voted in Term Limits for their seats - but they exempted themselves - kind of like the government with Obamacare.
