Trans fats is an uneccesary ingrediant to be putting in foods by companies. Trans fats are harder to avoid compared to avoiding cigarettes. Avoiding trans fats would be like trying to avoid buying products made in China. The stuff is in many things we eat including resturant foods.
This entire banning this and that is getting totally out of line. As said, we are becoming a nanny state and I don't want the government in my kitchen or anywhere else. Making us aware of the dangers is one thing, banning is quite another.
It's in too many foods. Trying to avoid trans fats would be like trying to not buy something made in China. You wouldn't have much to eat if you avoided foods with trans fats.
oh my god!!!!!!!! are you saying you'd have to cook? oh good gravy! lawd have mercy!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, just wait till they publish their ruling on tobacco products. FDA has already submitted their findings for review to the Office of Management and Budget. It's in the pipeline. Do you think they'll put the tobacco companies out of business? I don't!
I do not smoke cigarettes any longer because they kill. I agree with other poster that you can't avoid Trans Fats, but you can avoid cigarettes! I am glad the Trans Fat ruling is out first!
And it's not 100% HFCS - it has other tasty and nutritious stuff, too! Like sodium hexametaphosphate! Yum!!!
True but there is 0% "maple sugar" in it.
I know a lot of people that think Aunt Jemima is "maple syrup" and have educated them by just saying "read the label".
I don't mind (man-made) trans-fat going away, although I do actively avoid them where possible.
Same with avoiding smokers.
Although, I know many smokers that try pretty hard to avoid cigarettes with far less success than reading a product label and refraining from eating at restaurants on a daily basis.
Are eggs good for you or bad for you, what about milk, raw milk, 2 percent, 1 percent and or how many glasses of water should you really drink. Tap water or bottled water.
Food and Drug Administration protecting stupid Americans from choices and making laws to protect their existence.
.
eggs are good for you, they are high in protein, and while they do contain cholesterol, as long as you dont try to eat a dozen eggs every day you are ok.

Nothing in the egg changed..just government opinions of it.
eggs were said to be bad for you way back when the government decided to get into the food regulation business. what they did was powder the eggs, the feed huge amounts to volunteers, and then check their cholesterol, and when it spiked in the volunteers, they deemed eggs to be bad for you. the reality is that if you eat fresh eggs, not powdered, you dont get that spike in cholesterol.

Lard is not inherently bad, actually it's a combination of fats. Certainly don't want to eat deep fried foods all the time, but when properly heated and used it is just about as perfect a frying medium you can get.
yep, lard is good, pure vegetable oil is good, pure olive oil is good, in fact as long as the oil is not partially or fully hydrogenated, it is good to use for cooking.

yep, hydrogenated oil is the problem. as middle aged mom said, it was done to increase the shelf life of the oil and the food that the oil is used in.
YOU choose what you eat. We don't need them doing this.
Yes, and persons who engage in engulfing trans fats should not be eligible for health care insurance or any government assistance or support program. Let the pigs wallow in the fats to their heart's content. Well, for as long as their hearts hold-out.
It's not about that. It's about banning companies from putting trans fats in the foods we eat. The stuff is in too many foods.
Yes it is.
I am educated and have some common sense. I think I make pretty good choices. I know, for instance, that Mc Donalds french fries are terrible for you. So I dont eat them on a regular basis. I make the CHOICE not to have them as part of my daily diet. But they are damn good. So if I make the choice that day to get some, I sure hope they have all that fat and grease in them.
Your view assumes people are too stupid to know whether something is bad for them or not and therefore must have the government make the choice for them
