Technology prices decrease over time. Computers used to take up a whole room, cost as much or more than a house, and performed less functions than they do today. Yet, here we are.

We've been introducing those into public libraries, mostly to use in children's/teen programs - for example, we recently used one to create decorations for the teen area. It's a fun yet expensive toy, but luckily we get them cheap due to our location (very close to where they're developed in Silicon Valley).

I guess the "controversy" is being able to make fake weapons with them? Not sure what to do about that, but hopefully authorities will be aware of them eventually.

"The gun was printed, assembled and test-fired 50 times, which indeed proves that current, albeit leading, 3D printing techniques can be put to use making working firearms."

Yes, but it will likely still not be as cheap as a 38 special bought off of the street. This is just an attempt by the left to put the genie back in the bottle. I'm sure they'll make building your own gun illegal, but that will never stop criminals from doing it anyway. In case you haven't noticed, criminals don't obey the gun laws that are already on the books.

3D printing IS NOT as simple and point and click. It requires hundreds of thousands, and perhaps millions of dollars of equipment and materials. Libs... You can all settle down.

Construction use is very interesting.
Contour Crafting: 3D House Printer: Science Fiction in the News

Contour Crafting Plans to 3D Print a House in 24 Hours ...
quote:

Contour Crafting works by setting down quick-dry cement in layers, building up the skeleton of the building. Load bearing walls are double reinforced with two rows of triangle-shaped concrete interior buttresses, while other walls use a single row. The mainly hollow walls allow for additional construction materials, such as plumbing, wiring and insulation, to be added during construction. Khoshnevis claims he could construct the entire shell of a house in 24 hours.
