Don't remember Reagan's ReykjavÃk Summit of 1986? It collapsed at the last second, but eventually resulted in a agreement later on. Not every talk has instant results. Some are just stepping stones to them.
As the Secretary of State said in the article
"It takes time to build confidence between countries that have really been at odds with each other for a long time now"
This.
There was some progress made over the weekend and like every negotiation of this type there will be several more "one step forward, two steps back" moments.
To judge these efforts as failed already seems more wishful thinking than anything else.
1. Technically speaking, Yes, but only because the Arabs were already planning to immediately invade Israel and thus Israel felt like it needed to preempt them.
2. No.
3. No.
4. Yes, in response to Arab aggression and/or as a result of Arab aggression. Remember, had Jordan not entered the Six-Day War, the West Bank might have never gotten into Israel's hands, which would have meant no Israeli settlements in the West Bank at all right now.
The west bank is strategic. I would also never give it up. To the victor go the spoils. If Israel really hated Arabs, they could go through Gaza like crap through a goose and get rid of that perpetual boil.
But they won't. Why? Because Israel really believes that once the fanatics are killed off, peace in the region will come.
The President and his Sec of State are taking care of business here, showing great restraint while giving Iran a chance to take the high road. At least they were given a chance.
This development is ongoing. There was a time not long ago when Iran wouldn't come to the table. They certainly weren't willing to negotiate with the Neanderthal diplomacy that Bush represented.
CHANGE!
Iran is an old hand at thumbing its nose at the US. They will negotiate, bargain, stall, meanwhile still developing its nuclear aims. Then break off talks when it suits. Time and time again this has happened.
Anyone who can't see history for what it is is a loon.

1. So you want Israel to become an international pariah and to have a lot of sanctions get put on it?
2. The international community disagree with you (and for the record, I am not a big fan of the international community, considering their attitude in regards to the plight of the Jews between 1933 and 1945, but it is still not a good idea on Israel's part to excessively **** off the international community).
3. Well, yeah, if Israel really hated Arabs, then it could act really nasty (Hitler-style nasty) towards the Arabs. Israel thankfully is not doing this and is not planning on doing this, which demonstrates that Israel isn't an excessively anti-Arab and/or a bloodthirsty killer state.
To be fair, if the U.S. is going to pressure Israel over its nukes, then it should do the same in regards to India and Pakistan.
Also, as for Israel violating international law with its settlement building, this is perhaps true, but if Israel should consistently follow international law, then so should all other countries, including the United States of America.
The Israeli yappers being marginalized on the world stage is a wonderful thing to behold.
Until they drop bombs on Iran with the covert help of the United States. At that point you'll be more recalcitrant to call them "yappers" and instead will be wondering how you could have so easily overlooked the geopolitics of the Israeli position and influence on world affairs.
Put down the AIPAC propaganda literature. That's ALL bull.
Pakistan has threatened India for one.
And Iran doesn't threaten Israel "daily." That's a lie. If so, give me yesterday's threat and give me one from last week.
Israel continues to threaten Iran with attacks all the time.
If you wanna make a case that Iran supports terrorist groups, then you have a point. But cut the "we've gotta save Israel" crap.
I suspect he/she is on the clock. The IDF/Mossad hire shills to spread pro-Israel propaganda on forums all around the world. But, then a lot of so-called Christians are pushing the Zionists agenda, too.
