She’s the Teflon probie.
Despite failing a required FDNY running test five times, Wendy Tapia was allowed to graduate from the Fire Academy and become a firefighter. On Dec. 2, she is taking the test for an unprecedented sixth time.
Tapia was one of only five women among 285 new firefighters who graduated from the FDNY’s Randall’s Island training academy on May 17.
The class was hailed as the most diverse group of rookies ever, all of them EMTs or paramedics seeking promotion to firefighter. She joined a group of just 35 women among the 11,000 Bravest.
Diversity is evidently more prized than quality.

Keep her in the truck when the real deal occurs because there's no do-overs in an emergency.

What kind of tests did she fail. Will she be able to carry people out burning buildings?

From the article

"At the end of 18 weeks of probationary training, Tapia failed to run 1¹/₂ miles in 12 minutes without gear, as required by the academy. She blamed a foot injury. "

All those NY firefighters did it and passed..284 of that class passed, 1 failed six times no less.

They can let her take the elevator while the rest run up 5-6-10 flights of stairs loaded down wearing equipment.

1 1/2 miles in 12 minutes?
That's a joke.
She's either fat or lazy.

That's ridiculous. I have a coworker like that - not qualified for the work we do (different line of work than this). And once they're in, it's practically impossible to remove them.

This is BS. First of all, how often does the department recruit? If she failed the first time, she should have had to wait a required time period before being allowed to apply again. If the department doesn't hire every year, that wait could've been say 5 years or so. Anyway, 5 times she failed? No, unacceptable. If she fails on December 2nd, she should get booted. She should've been booted already but whatever.

How many times do they normally get to redo the test?
