Strangely enough, when a local politician here in SF suggested imposing a $0.02 per ounce tax on soda to fund children's health initiatives, everyone -- left, right, and center -- went absolutely bonkers. The liberals shrieked that it would be a regressive tax on the poor; and the righties, what few there are, produced their usual whines about nanny-statism.

As someone who drinks maybe one can of soda every six months, I just don't get it.

Hispanic people are usually Catholic and usually vote Democrat. The Catholic Church is against birth control and abortion. The problem is clearly those extremist left-wing religious zealots.

Bill Maher says it best in this clip. I'm not the biggest fan of Maher but he's got it down in this one. Conservatives are nothing but one big contradiction.

The more our country has to spend on social welfare programs, the more the government needs to keep the income gap as wide as possible in order to collect the taxes necessary to fund the growing welfare programs.

By supporting a 'soak the rich' mentality, the left, middle class, or whoever, is gullibly and willingly participating in their own economic suppression.

this might all make sense if welfare programs weren't a relatively small part of where our tax dollars are spent. the money spent on the poor has nothing to do with the way the rich provide low wage jobs or ship jobs overseas.

Of course, when a conservative steps up to try to put a stop to this madness, Democrats and liberals demagogue them (us) to death for trying to deprive little Juan or Tyrone or Jimmy of his Fruity Pebbles!

This woman is the THE PERFECT example of failed liberal ideology. She's the child of immigrants. She's fat. She's disabled. She does not work. She receive's food stamps. She has 5 obese children.

Is there a more perfect example of how liberals and liberalism are the death of America?

How the food stamp diet is leaving the Rio Grande Valley both hungry and obese | The Washington Post
Are. You. Kidding. Me????? For YEARS liberals have been toting the benefits of healthy eating. YEARS!!!!! We have a freakin' First Lady whose #1 agenda is fighting obesity with healthy nutrition & exercise. And you have the freakin' GALL to now ignore all of this & blame obesity on liberals? You are a piece of work, truly. This is the perfect example of hypocrisy at its finest. What a joke.

Relatively small? The U.S. spends over $1 trillion per year on over 80 different means-tested welfare programs.
