Not only the GOP, but the whole nation is doomed. When we have more dependent, poor people of low intellect, we will have more democrats.

This is not only a regional trend, but a national trend.

As long as there are poor, dependent idiots, there will always be liberal politicians ready to pander to them and provide them handouts for votes. There used to be a time in which we voted for freedom and the right to live our lives with minimal interference. Now the nation votes, like an obedient dog, for treats.

If you think the nation, as a whole, is becoming less prosperous and less intelligent, then you can understand how and why there will be more and more democrats. This will continue, of course, until the whole system explodes (it will end with a bang, not a whimper).

From the ashes of the old USA, there will be states emerging that reflect the initial, constitutional USA. If so, perhaps this destructive and corrosive experiment of liberalism will have done some good in the end.

Yet another reason for the GOP to oppose amnesty.

America's best days are still ahead.

I am SO glad to be an American by accident of birth.

Way to disparage the majority of a country I'd assume you'd take up arms to defend. I don't understand your contempt.

Florida is essentially gone for the GOP, and next is Texas (as well as NC, GA, MS, AZ, etc.)

Demographics are changing rapidly and the GOP is simply not a party that is attractive to minority voters (at least at this point in time). Instead of trying to build a "bigger tent", they seem to be trying to exclude more and more people all the time. The funny thing is, a lot of these people think that the GOP needs to elect a "true conservative" and that'll magically solve all their problems in national elections. NEWSFLASH, demographics do not favor you more and more each year. Start appealing to more minority voters. It is kinda fun to watch the RWNJs heads explode on here though lol.

The GOP is out of touch with most younger voters because they don't support marriage equality, the legalization of marijuana, health care for all (single payer would be nice), lower education costs, and a more comprehensive (European-esque) safety net, etc. But they'll just keep kicking and screaming all the way home and will continue to lose nationally with the daunting problem of demographic changes haunting them a little more all the time.

And not supporting bi-partisan immigration reform is another ingenious idea too. I mean, that'll really improve your standing among Hispanic voters.

As for CA, you people do realize that it sends way more money out than it receives, right? It subsidizes many of the poor red states. It is not bankrupt (it has a surplus this year), it is the innovation hub of the country, it has the 8th largest economy on earth, it had the 5th fastest rate of GDP growth last year. In addition, one of its metros (SF) had the fastest rate of GDP growth in the country (7.4% - that's "China fast" btw). Plus, the Bay Area is already the richest CSA in the country too.

But good luck appealing to more people, GOP. You'll need it in the future….

EDIT: The USA is not going anywhere anytime soon, so sorry to disappoint some of you. If you're not happy being American, then leave. No one's preventing you and the overwhelming majority of people wouldn't care less if you did.

Funny, it seems to be the one who claim to be the most "patriotic" are also the ones who always seem to be crying about the breakup of the country and how they want to leave, etc. etc.

The right wing proclaims imminent disaster every time they lose an election.

If you're not happy to be born an American, maybe a little overseas travel could broaden your perspective.

The USA looks pretty good to those returning after spending time in most of the rest of the world.

While that's been common talk for the past decade or so, the electoral reality is that recent elections have shown Texas becoming deeper red. For instance, that utter fool Rick Perry has set an all-time Texas record for winning gubernatorial elections, most of them by wide margins. Just a year ago, Texas overwhelmingly elected that supreme creep Rafael Cruz. The fact is that no Democrat has won a statewide office in a generation.

Now, I'm well aware of the Democrats looking at the growing % of Latinos in the state and counting on their votes to turn the situation around. Why they ignore the chronically low Latino turnout is kinda puzzling, though.

It was a gamble for the state to get into the reinsurance market, and given the current lull in major storms we've had since the legislation passed, it's a gamble that is looking to have worked.

What's far more unsustainable for the state is to have to rely on the private market for reinsurance because the very high profit margins the modern reinsurance market demands as a cost of doing business.
