Grew up in DC, and I will never watch another game played by their pro football team.
I live in Cleveland and will never watch a Guardians game. I was an Indians fan, and they are gone.
Luckily, my hockey team's mascot is a flightless bird, so doubtful the Woke Mafia will find a way to be offended by the Penguins.
I agree with you on a number of things politically but, IMO, if anyone is going to let politics get in the way of their sports fandom, then they weren't strong fans to begin with.

I don't like my sports entertainment preaching politics. The changing of the names of the sports teams I mentioned is a constant sermon on political correctness and wokeism, which I abhor. I'll still be a sports fan, but I will watch other stuff that doesn't preach politics is all.
It's like church. I am Catholic, I enjoy attending Mass. If however, my pastor added politics to every one of homilies, I'd quit my parish tomorrow. I'd still be Catholic, I'd still dig on G-d and all that, but I'd quit any parish that preaches politics.
Since I can't get them to stop preaching politics, I just won't listen anymore and I will tune them out.
Don't like the name change, Commanders is among the worst names I heard floating out there. "Let's go Commies" was all over the place when the name was first floated a few months ago, surprised the owner went with it.
Washington has ownership issues so who knows what they are doing. That owner always seems to be in the middle of some scummy stuff with that team.
