chances are it will be so integrated into the vehicle electronics, that if you try to disable it you will disable the system, and then you would have to have the vehicle towed to the dealer the have the computer reflashed, and then you would get a citation for tampering with a safety system, or some such garbage. and dont forget that the ECU is only one computer in the engine management system.
With the number of CATV cameras deployed on almost every intersection by city governments why is this such a big deal?

I'm solidly in your corner on this one as humans left to their own devices while behind the wheel of a 3K lb vehicle have proven to be the stupidest beings on the planet. Texters seem immune from common sense; drunks still get behind the wheel and granny Methuselah with her twelve year old out of date prescription glasses still thinks the turn signal lever is to hang her change purse from.
Speaking of RV's; at 65' long all hooked up; it beggars the imagination to feel the angst of having your wife tell you the Mazda 3 you're not quite half way past is wandering into your rear set of duals while the tweeny-brain driving the thing is busily absorbed texting her friends back at the mall.

It's amazing how so many people, like some in this thread, are so willingly to have government control other peoples actions and even their own.
Just because there is like a 0.006% chance of you being in a car accident today, and a 0.0000000000000014% chance that you end up in the hospital from a car accident today, doesn't mean that we need to eliminate human drivers all together.

One requirement that would help in several ways is that all surveillance is accessible. Why can't everyone look at the tunnel cam? If they are going to have it then it needs to be a live feed. Of the several good reasons , one of them is to let you know how much you are watched.
