The main problem Amtrak has is that, outside of the Northeast Corridor, it shares the railroad tracks with freight companies. They need to have their own set of dedicated tracks to run uninterrupted.

One thing's for sure, 99% of those who comment on highway funding have no clue how it works.

Usually they also are the ones who advocate higher fuel taxes on drivers so mass transit users can continue to pay only about 1/3 of the cost to run those systems.

HSR still uses track and switches..the switches are NOT controlled by the engineer in the train,
