I wonder how people can be forced to exercise and eat better?
What is interesting is Puerto Rico is higher than the mainland USA, as is the US Virgin Islands.
My point is that life expectancy might not be a good way to measure the overall health of a nation.
I agree.
But no, people can't be forced to exercise and eat better. Again goes back to personal choice.
I choose to exercise and have disciplined myself to do it whether I feel like it or not. I like the pay off.
Some people are just not good at delayed gratification, and maybe never practiced it while growing up. It is sad that over nutrition is now one of the bigest health threats in our society today.
I think the American life expectancy is a little less than Japan because our diets are so poor here. The Japanese eat much more healthier than we do....
The residents of Okinawa Island are on average the longest live group of people in the world. They also live on a diet that has about 25% less calories than most western nations. In addition they eat far less meat, more veggies and most all of it tends to be fresh.
In addition to lifespans, people should also look at the statistics for things like autism, the new fad of ADD or ADHD, allergies, and a plethora of other personal ticks and ailments that have skyrocketed in past years.
Quite simple, garbage in, garbage out. The old adage of you are what you eat is true.
So most of us agree that to put blame on the USA not having a national healthcare system is wrong....
It seems that lack of personal responsibility is to blame.
I am sure that adequate health care plays a role but that would be something a bit hard to measure accurately. I don't think there is any single aspect one could say was the cause but I will say that personal health responsibility does play a big role.
What?? U want to live forever? When I reach the age of 70, I think thats fine time to say adios amigos, soyanara.. etc. etc.. I am sure I butchered all the spellings...

It's not quantity of years, it's quality of years.
70 is way too young to die!
