TPP Defenders Take To The Internet To Deliver Official ...
quote:
So, if you love current US IP law (and wish it would be expanded), you'll love the TPP. If you don't, well… get used to it. The US is running your IP show now, foreigners.

Denton does admit there is one change to existing US law, something only a maximalist would be happy to see -- a provision that would allow rights holders to pursue criminal charges against those who "aid and abet" copyright infringement. Great news! That means you no longer have to actually infringe to be held criminally accountable. All you have to do is be adjacent to it.

TPP IP Chapter Leaked, Confirming It's Worse Than ACTA

quote:
The document confirms fears that the negotiating parties are prepared to expand the reach of intellectual property rights, and shrink consumer rights and safeguards.

Compared to existing multilateral agreements, the TPP IPR chapter proposes the granting of more patents, the creation of intellectual property rights on data, the extension of the terms of protection for patents and copyrights, expansions of right holder privileges, and increases in the penalties for infringement. The TPP text shrinks the space for exceptions in all types of intellectual property rights. Negotiated in secret, the proposed text is bad for access to knowledge, bad for access to medicine, and profoundly bad for innovation.

Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement
quote:
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a secretive, multi-national trade agreement that threatens to extend restrictive intellectual property (IP) laws across the globe and rewrite international rules on its enforcement. The main problems are two-fold:
(1) IP chapter: Leaked draft texts of the agreement show that the IP chapter would have extensive negative ramifications for users’ freedom of speech, right to privacy and due process, and hinder peoples' abilities to innovate.
(2) Lack of transparency: The entire process has shut out multi-stakeholder participation and is shrouded in secrecy.

If it puts illegal music downloaders in prison for the rest of their lives, I'm all for it.

You do realize the copy right stuff is basically the tip of the TPP. It is basically an agreement written by 600+ corporations to bind the Peruvians, Vietnamese, Chilean, Japanese, Korean, US, and other economies together however they want. Its also all written in secret and they would prefer it be passed in secret as well since it basically destroys safety standards for products, labor laws, environmental laws, bans buy American laws and campaigns, subject US law to foreign binding arbitration agreements and eliminates oversight for corporations. It is basically the one thing the left and the Tea Party 100% agree on that it is an abomination and it needs to be stopped.

The big corporates backed all this stuff.

Go ahead and say that Congress needs to approve and not to worry.
I know better.

We had a thread yesterday on NWO asking about what it is.
Here's a fine example of it working it's way into sovereign nations.

Is this a serious post? You want people who are at best committing a civil offense to receive the same punishment as someone who committed a capital offense? I would love to hear your legal justification for such nonsense. I'm sure I'll be waiting a while.

Yes, there is unfortunately much that isn't even out there to see. The implications here are enormous. The fact that this has become common place is truly amazing.

However, the copyright being used as a blank check has been tied in with other internet activities. It seems to have been chosen as the easy method of choice.

What defines being "adjacent" to infringement? EFF had some "experts" chime in on issues they see with copyright abuse.

The Innovation Act Is One Step Closer to Becoming Law

quote:
Big news in patent reform: the Innovation Act, our favorite troll-killing bill, has cleared its first major political hurdle. Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee resoundingly voted 33-5 to send the bill to the floor. Better yet, the amendment process added back in two pieces we worried were missing—demand letter reform and covered businessed method patent (CBM) review.

TPP: A Worldwide Corporate Power Grab of Enormous Proportions
quote:
While 600 corporate lobbyists have been granted access and input on the draft texts from the beginning, even high-ranking members of Congress have been denied access to the most basic content of what US negotiators are proposing in our names.
....
This isn’t just a bad trade agreement, it’s a wish list of the 1%—a worldwide corporate power grab of enormous proportions.
