Yes, it is, when the police enforce the rules.

This is not different than an individual trying to sell mistletoe in the produce section of a Super Walmart. Even if I have the best mistletoe in the world and the most earnest heart, Walmart is paying to keep the lights on, the floor swept, security on the premesis, and marketing to get people in the door.
As you can see, I'm not a fan of "non profits and community markets". I have not seen one yet that didn't end up a political controversy.

It's little more than political patronage. I am absolutely certain that the organizing leasing the space did not pay full price, and are claiming "cost" to the vendors. Or, in other words... The organization is benefiting from political patronage for public space.

All that being said... The notion that some little girl threatens the vendors... And you take their side?

Doesn't lead me to think your interest is anything but defending political control and market limitation.

Okay, have the girl pay for a space like ALL the other vendors did, then she can equally compete.

If you attempted to sell something at Target or wherever and/or caused a disturbance who would escort you off the property? The local city police ...

The local jurisdiction determined that it was required. You'll have to check with them for the reason as the reasons vary.

[with that said, if the other vendors needed a license, then she needs a license, too]

See, the trouble with people is that everyone thinks they or the ones they personally like should be the exception. Once you start looking the other way and making exceptions then the rules can no longer be applied. Regardless of the "awww poor little girl and her sweet mistletoe!" factor, every single person posting her knows this. Ever single person posting here would support these rules and laws if their neighborhood was taken over by flea market vendors. Look, whatever laws and rules are in place aren't just there because someone had the idea...they were born from a problem and were seen as the solution and everyone agreed....right up until a little girl at Christmas time is in the news anyway. Politics always trumps reality.

That said, kids get away with temporary stands all over the place all the time. Sometimes they don't. That's all.

But it's not the police enforcing Target's rules. A CRIME was committed. That's why the cops are involved.

Again, this just boils down to dumb, on the part of the city, and utter stupidity on the part of the so-called "community" people who are so caught up in being PC, they failed to realize they've become the very thing they claim to hate.

Let's just say that if ** I ** were a vendor, and some kid was doing something like this and some sorehead start ranting on about permits... I'd tell them she was in MY space. I know what these markets are, and despite all the PC hoopla, they're money grubbers defending their monopoly against a kid. I cannot begin to tell you how infuriated that makes me. One of the reasons I avoid things like that.

Lol, I'm guessing your wife knows better than to drag you to your local craft market.

Fortunately, the Portland Market has beer to help guys like you to get through it. Good tacos too.

You still aren't answering why ANYONE should need a license.
