Many Of Syria's Chemical Weapons May Have Come From Saddam Hussein's Iraq - Investors.com

"In 2006, former Iraqi general Georges Sada, second in command of the Iraqi Air Force who served under Saddam Hussein before he defected, wrote a comprehensive book, "Saddam's Secrets."
It details how the Iraqi Revolutionary Guard moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria in advance of the U.S.-led action to eliminate Hussein's WMD threat."

Remember how the Democrats and their willing accomplices in the MSM gleefully sounded the drumbeat of "Bush lied, people died" back in 2003-04 when few WMD was found following the disentegration of the Hussein regime in Iraq? Bush did not lie - no intelligence is ever perfect - but the fact is we didn't need that report to justify the removal of Saddam Hussein. We already knew that he had WMD - since after the Gulf War. U.N. Resolution 1441 required Saddam Hussein to cooperate with the U.N. weapons inspectors, account for every WMD in Iraq's possesion, and to discontinue production of any prohibited weapons. United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. This was the final resolution following at least ten similar ones dating back to the end of the Gulf War.

The U.N. inspectors were not there to "search" for WMD's - they knew that they were in the country - Iraqi officials were supposed to account for them. You will recall that the inspectors were hindered in their mission at every step. In a post 9/11 world - Saddam Hussein could not be allowed to continue thumbing his nose at the world and risk having those weapons fall into the hand of Muslim extremist groups such as al-Qaeda. Saddam Hussein refused to co-operate. The 4 months between passage of 1441 and the invasion of Iraq gave Hussein plenty of time to move his WMD stockpile to Syria. A senior Iraqi Air force officer confirms that this was done - as quoted above.

These weapons likely made it into Syria and now are at risk of falling into the hands of al Qaeda if Assad's regime falls. The liberals who were bent on interfering with President Bush's attempts to defend our national security post 9/11 for political reasons are why there was such a protracted buildup to the invasion - tipping our hand - and giving Saddam the opportunity to move his arsenal out and now place us in danger from beyond the grave.

Democrats lied - and now more people may die.

Clinton knew about WMDs: "One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." --President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." --Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton, signed by: -- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." -Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." -- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." Letter to President Bush, Signed by: -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them." -- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." -- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" -- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

There was a lot of debate about that back in the day. Of course it could never have happened because they weren't there in the first place. The russians never did show up and dump all that sarin gas into the river either I'm sure.

Maybe Bush had a valid argument about chemical weapons. Maybe Bush was right about the world being better off without Saddam. Neither were reasons to be in Iraq for a decade.

No the reason we are there and continue to be there and in Afghan and wherever the "call is sounded" is to ensure US dollars are traded for oil. We change that and the troops can come home. Until then our lifestyle and our never ending debt spending depends on it.

Syria had chemical weapons back in early 1982 when Hafez Assad crushed the rebellion in the city of Hama. Why would Syria need to import chemical agents from Iraq in 2003 when it had already maintained its own stockpiles for over two decades by that point?

All true enough. But it provokes the obvious question: why did the left make "lies about WMD" the keystone of it's assault on Bush for nearly a decade?? I still say that "Bush lied, thousands died" will go down in history as one of the biggest idiocies ever. Even some of Saddam's senior officers believed that he still had WMD, right up to the invasion.

Why didn't the left argue their case on on reasoned, factual basis instead of making up a delusion and running with it? The scary thing is how many Americans bought into the delusion.

Remember how everyone knows that Hussein had chemical weapons and that's not why there was an invasion? The reason why we invaded could have come "in the form of a mushroom cloud".

Sorry, but your little thread here is worthless. Iraq was a massive mistake. Seriously, you're going back to defend Bush now? I guess some people have a hard time admitting failure. Even Cheney owned up to it being a mistake.

Well yeah, we knew Iraq had chemical weapons, ask the Kurds.

What sold the Iraq war wasn't Chemcial or biological, it was "a mushroom cloud" image.

Where are the nukes? Oh thats right, there weren't any. And just because Saddam may have sold them some weapons earlier, doesn't mean he had them in 2003.
