What? You think there are mom and pop competitors to Walmart? Theres been a lot of research done on this, Walmart wipes out the mom and pops-any of them that compete with Walmart are TOAST.
But hey-you want to keep funding Walmart by paying for their employees welfare, go right ahead and argue for that. I wont.
What world do YOU live in? If you think mom & pop stores pay high wages and offer great benefits you are sadly mistaken.
Buy China - shop Wal-Mart!!!! Help them build another empty high-rise.....when their bubble bursts, I bet the Chinese don't have the same reaction as lowly Americans did over the tear down of this country....there's always another ignorant country to believe they are being blessed with goods, money, and jobs. Next? Only this time, I won't give a crap about any other country. Compassion is near non-existant for this honorable, hard working American country idiot!
never mind....
Funny, I can but the SAME products from Best Buy, Sears, Target or any other national name brand store as Wal-Mart.
why don't you whine about them.
By the way, what brand of computer are you using? I wonder where it was built?
But the more the gov't regulates those mom & pop's, including minimum wage regs, the more likely it is that WalMart will wipe them out.
What regs?
Federal Minimum Wage became law in 1935.
The Federal Minimum Wage had the highest purchasing power in 1968 @ $1.60 /hr., the equivalent of $10.64 in 2012 dollars. The current Federal Minimum Wage is $7.75.
Small business has the greatest perk of all. The Federal Government has historically and continues to turn a blind eye towards the employment of illegal workers. Regardless of how high a fence or the number and manner of border patrols, people will find a way to immigrate to the U.S., so long as there are jobs for them.
I think Walmart found themselves in hot water back in the early 2000's because they outsourced cleaning of stores to small business contractors that used illegal workers to clean the stores, at night. They settled out of court and life went on.
This is true. Almost all regulations help the big guys and hurt the small businesses.
Obamacare is a good example.
How is Obamacare a good example... never mind, lets not get off subject.
Your video does not back up your 2 points.
Quote:
1. Raise the minimum wage and Walmart wins.
Your video does not say that at all, it says Wal Mart as well as any other big box store is not hurt in any way by minimum wage hikes because they can afford to pay their people, but this video focuses cities where there are no Wal Marts.

2. Pass laws to keep Walmart out and both consumers and small businesses lose.
I dont think the video even touches on that other than the one line about stores that get run out by wal mart usually get replaced by ones do a better job, but it doesnt not go into detail about what that actually means. It doesnt tell if those new businesses pay more or if they actually replace what is lost.
They also say that states with more wal marts have more businesses, but that is a dumb comparison seeing as the states with the most wal marts are also the most populous states, and there for would have more businesses anyways.
The video has a lot of vague references and backs up none of them.
That being said, im not against Wal Mart.. mostly. Their pay is not good, but the video is also right about industry average from what i can tell. It is more about how they treat their employees.
When they want to get rid of employees, they trap them. They will tell someone to do something they arent supposed to do, if they do it, they get fired for breaking that rule, if they dont , they get fired for insubordination.
This can be for things as little as taking a longer break on a ruff day,,going on the loading dock/truck, setting a price wrong, giving a discount and so on and so forth.
Wal mart should receive zero tax breaks and zero subsidies. Wal Mart is a cancer for this country. I can only dream of the day when Wal Marts are all gone (I think Amazon will be the one to end their reign).

My point "Raise the minimum wage and Walmart wins." is from the link: "Score this a win for Walmart then. They can absorb the higher wage relatively easily while their smaller competitors cannot."

Maybe you missed it, but the stats they quoted are PER CAPITA. So the population of these states is immaterial.
