Are you forced to purchase insurance through the exchange? Is your employer forced to purchase insurance through the exchange? If not, then why should government employees be required to purchase through the exchange?

If I have insurance that doesn't cover a medical issue, I can not purchase that after the fact and have it cover the issue. That is the whole pre-existing condition thing.
We would not be having a debate if all the government did was make it illegal for insurance companies to turn down people with pre existing conditions.

Even then........how does it make sense for someone to decide to not pay up for insurance until they need it? Would it make sense to allow people to buy car insurance after the accident to cover the accident?

I should pay more because I decide to keep my policy in place even though I currently dont need it to cover for those who only pay for it when they need it?

Harry Reid should have made that argument from the beginning. That isn't what he said. The major problems for the Democrats won't be because the program isn't working well. It will be because of the constant lying.

Bingo. What's the point of having health insurance if it doesn't cover things that you have not foreseen?
I can guarantee you that I will never need maternity care.

Are you sure? You`ve got plans to "man up" somewhere down the road and stop with the never ending crying about losing 2 elections to this guy? I think most of you boys would do well to keep that maternity coverage.

Because when it comes to insurance, you don't know what you'll need until the need actually arises.

The not buying insurance until needed thing is covered by the mandate. You have to buy before it is needed or pay a fine.
If you get something not covered by your policy, and can not pay out of pocket, do you just walk out of the hospital and say no thanks? No. you get treated, and MY insurance rates go up to cover the hospitals costs.
Last year hospitals had $41 BILLION dollars of unpaid treatments. Do you really think they eat that loss?

Think of it like a store. A pack of gum costs 50 cents currently. If the store has a lot of loss due to theft, the price of that pack of gum goes up. Even if I never stole a pack of gum, I will be paying more for that pack of gum because someone else did.

I have tons of options for insurance plans. Mine happens to be what is considered a cadillac plan. I could choose to get less coverage, I can even choose to get one that has more. I can choose any company that offers insurance to purchase it from. So, really there are hundreds of colors to choose from.
