He helped calm down the rage many Black South Africans felt after apartheid ended. South Africa was very close to a bloody revolution and you can thank Nelson Mandela for deftly navigating his way and leading the country to a peaceful transition. He certainly wasn't about revenge if the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is any indication. A shame that so few leaders are like him. I will certainly miss him.

It took more than just Mandiba to yank South Africa from its Highway to Hell, we should not forget F.W. de Klerk who trusted Mandela and worked to keep his own nut jobs in their place. When this simple idea is ignored you get the Arabs and the Israelis! Nelson Mandela teaches us that one must trust others and trust they will understand and respond to reason. Americans (Republicans take note) need more than anybody in this world need to understand this basic truth.
