I guess they really don't understand that we ARE in this together. Taking pleasure in people losing their jobs seems to be a conservative dream. However, we live in a society based on consumerism. When there is no one left with money to purchase anything ~ where will we all be then?
Better than the liberals taking pleasure in the war in Iraq going poorly. And don't even try to claim they didn't. They had a field day making speeches about it.

Won't happen as long as Democrats are in charge. You lose your job, Democrats just give you years of unemployment benefits and want your vote in return. Our education system is not turning out people as knowledgeable and skilled as competing nations, and Democrats push a curriculum where you get credit for saying 3*4=11.

My Lord how many government grants and programs are out there to help folks or just get a student loan and go to school?? Instead folks sit around and cry how nothing is fair. Some of you are cheering for the automation of the fast food places and I bet these are the same people who are complaining that their tax dollars are going to those lazy people who don't want to work? Hmmm, so insteead of increasing the min wage to lets say to 9-10.00 an hour and getting more people off of the governments tit some of you rather see unemployment, joblessness and crime rise? A lot of people do not have a clue what the world (USA) is like outside of their retirement community. The jobs I performed when growing up as a teenager are now being done by adults trying to support a family. The Min. wage needs to rise for the reasons you mentioned and others.
And this is one of the reasons we are losing jobs. Everything is becoming automated and putting people out of work. I want to deal with real people. I hate calling my insurance company especially when I just have a simple question. It takes at least 10 minutes just to go through the process of verifying who I am. And god forbid I don't speak clear enough for the computer to understand and it gets confused Then I get mad and yell at it lol

Technology will replace servers and order takers in the fast food environment just like full service gas stations eliminated the full service attendant. "Filler' up with 104, clean the windows, check the tires and fluids please" Those were the good ole days.
Tablets are being used more and more and delivering fast food to your location, will become the norm. Ronald McDonald

Some convenience stores like Sheetz, Wawa and Royal Farms already do this. In some parts of the country fast food workers are mostly illegal immigrants who cannot speak English. This includes most of the places like New York and New Jersey where they are striking for $15 an hour.
Here in WV its all Americans working at McDonalds and there is no talk of any striking here, nor is there any talk of strikes at Walmarts in West Virginia. People here appreciate having a job and making an honest living unlike the extortionist union in liberal states. Many of their members are Obama type Democrats and illegal immigrants. COmpared to dealing with an illegal alien whose poor English skills will mess up my order, I rather deal with a computer. Even liberals may like the new touch screens because as a negotiation and compromise to liberals and Democrats we can make the machines bilingual with a Spanish option so the illegal aliens that Obama is trying to legalize won't feel discriminated against and they won't feel pressured to adopt American culture and learn our language.
Gotta seriously question the motives of anyone taking pleasure out of eliminating a whole sector of employment in an already floundering jobs market.
Cause and effect will come back to bite your hiney big time in a very Karma inducing way if you are actually gloating over this move.
I bet a significant portion of a job you or some other member of your family is presently doing can be replaced by a "software package and a piece of shiny, Chinese made, hardware".

I take pleasure because it will require students to not just do the bare minimum in school. If they don't take advantage of the FREE education they are getting, they will starve.
You do realize that an employer's business IS his job? Running furniture manufacturing business is howhe makes a living, it's his occupation, it's what he does to provide for his family, right?????
The carpenters he employees consider making furniture as their way of providing for themselves and their families. Those carpenters want to earn as high a wage as they can, they may even create a union to demand higher salaries and more benefits.
For the sake of discussion, let's say you work at this furniture store as a salesman.
Your motives are the exact same, both you and the owner show up to work each day to earn money, to pursue your happiness.
I assume you wouldn't take less pay, sacrifice your salary or commissions, to earn just enough to get by, because you think it would save the company money?
I doubt the reason you think you have a job is to help make your employer successful, and earn just enough so as everyone else who works with you can keep their jobs.
I doubt you'd sacrifice your income thinking that the money you save the company would help ensure that your co-workers would keep their jobs, and the employer might even have enough left over to hire another employee.
I doubt once you reach your minimum sales quotas that you'd give away all the rest of your commissions to your co-workers. You'd try and make the most sales you can, to earn the most money and be the best salesman in the company.
If you only did the bare minimum, and gave away your commissions to co-workers, your employer might see you as a lousy salesman and let you go. The same thing would happen to an employer who did not earn a high enough profit to invest and improve his product, his competition and customers would see him as not keeping up, and put him out of business.
I think it is a typically American mindset, which luckily is not found in most other places.
In Germany for instance employees do indeed accept lower wages and fewer working hours for months if it helps their companies in times of little demand. German employers - except for the internationally minded big corporations, which fortunately play a minor role there - like their employees, they avoid letting anyone go unless someone keeps screwing up. There still is that sense of mutual obligation, jobs are NOT considered mere income sources, most people don't think in terms of "job market".
In Japan they traditionally had a very different system as well. Employees were usually employed for life, and even after retirement they were still considered employees, thus receiving money. That mentality gave society stability, families could plan ahead, have children without worries.
The things you doubt in your post are exactly the kind of attitude I have.
For instance, when my main client told me last year that there were fewer jobs, I offered him to pay me less. He knows I don't give a crap about career and money, and he doesn't care as he likes my work. Nor is he himself the business type.
We are more like a family, and we behave accordingly. I am the last person to insist on my income if that means someone else has to pay the price.
Years ago when I was still working in-house I switched from full-time to part-time as I was earning too much and had too little time for myself. So my half job was given to someone else who needed a half job. In the end everyone was happy.
We have many fast food restaurants in my area and it's all adults who work there. So I'm not sure why you think only kids work there.
These adults were never kids? This dumbing down has been going on for 50 years.
