It's like a piece of property that has been for sale a long, long time. It becomes the stale donut in the market. There's a stigma. If and when it sells, it will more likely sell for less than fresh meat to the market.

Nothing precludes those out of work from using their skills and volunteering their time. Volunteering means you have proximity to people, places and things you otherwise would not have. You are off the couch, out the door and doing something productive.

It says something important to prospective employers about your character.

By your reasoning, long-term unemployment would last only as long as unemployment insurance.

Depends on the school district...
Retired teachers, on full pensions, get first dibs on substitute teaching positions, in my neck of the woods.
Pay varies by subject and grade level, $25-35/hr.

Occasionally, there are some 3rd shift custodial jobs paying $11 +/- available although most school districts contract such work out.

There's all manner of food service work that folks can do to cover lapses in employment in whatever "real job" they seek as well.

I keep hearing this. How much money are we talking about, $300 a week? Would that motivate you to not work? That wouldn't pay for my restaurant bill.

Blame the victim, its the American way. If your neighbor loses his job, its his fault, it doesn't matter until its your son. Nothing hits home in the NIMBY mentality of some, who watch pablum, proffered by the mainstream media.

btw everyone's a failure this year if you don't buy your sixteen year old a new Lexus for Xmas. Capitalism is such a mentally healthy system [sarc.].

Only in America with 24/7 crap adverts do we see the mass psychology of groupthink. Edward Bernay's theory in full force.

I truly believe now that many NEED to believe that the reason that people cannot find jobs is because they are lazy, unmotivated, whatever.
I think that a lot of people are terrified to actually confront and accept this reality for what it is - reality - because that would mean that there but for the grace of God goes every single last one of them.

I know. To be honest this time of year I see the vitriol at full force, and herd mentality of some posting against a poor single Mom who cant afford to feed her kids, and gets a paltry WIC or food stamp stipend to survive. The mentality of some makes me ill, What would Jesus Do?

I do believe in God and cannot believe he condones such projection of hatred against the ones who need help in our "society' these days. Yet the very same people pardon billionaires for egregious crimes that have decimated our economy, which is the whole cause of thsee problems in the first place.

What backwards logic.
The victims are the working stiffs who get mugged every payday to fund your schemes.
