LOL. "Affluenza" rich kid hides out a beach resort - not at a cabin in the woods. I hope his mom and other enablers get jail time for aiding and abetting.

Here he is violating his probation before he flees:

Texas authorities because he broke his parole. His mother helped him escape so she can be charged as well.

Affluenza teen threw a 'going away' party before going on the run with his mom over parole violation - and now faces up to 10 years in prison after being caught in Mexico

They drove across from Texas in their SUV or pickup. Mexican border guards just randomly check for contraband not status. No visa needed to visit the border towns but foreigners do need a visa to leave the border zone and drive past the secondary inspection to get to the interior. This is typically just fill out a form on the spot and pay small fee. Note that the US also records the license number of all vehicles leaving the US.

This was a miscarriage of justice, no doubt. But I don't think it's entirely fair to cite his family's wealth for his light sentence. There are convicted murderers and rapists all over this country with hardly a pot to pee pee in who are out on parole and walking the streets, because our justice system is broken. A lot of people would be shocked.

While it is true that having money can often mitigate some of the consequences of breaking the laws in this country, I blame the casual attitude towards drinking, teenage drinking, and drinking and driving that we have here.

Complete lack of meaningful consequences regarding breaking the law with alcohol or other drugs is mind-bogglingly stupid. And that's why everyone does it. And that's why everyone else has to pay the consequences with their lives.

So you people keep yammering on about how money this and money that, and go ahead and ignore the actual problem which is no one cares when alcohol continues to destroy people's lives bc we can't get tough with the laws.

This stupid punk should have been locked up with the key thrown away. And those family should have sued his parents to the sun and back.

I have no sympathy for him or his "affluenza". No matter how wealthy or sheltered someone may be, they still went out and drove under the influence of alcohol which resulted in 4 other people losing their lives. What was that judge smoking before he handed the sentence down?! People go to jails and prisons pretty frequently for DUI incidents where people are injured, let alone killed.

I worked in the criminal justice field and it was rare to see anyone in the prisons with a wealthy background. We have a different set of rules for the wealthy and also have different sets of rules for offenders who are members of racial minorities. The old saying of justice being blind is not true in many cases.

Well, he's 18 now and if he jacks up his probation again, at least he will be an adult and can potentially serve some REAL time so there is always a little hope.

It makes me hurt for the families of those 4 people that lost their lives. Where is their justice? They have to read these stories about the kid going to Mexico and getting lightly slapped on the wrist, yet he is still free. I would hate to be in their position
