Where are you buying $200 light bulbs? You are getting ripped off.

Plus how long does that CFL last compared to that obsolete incandescent light bulb?

Wondering how long it will be before we hear news reports about mercury from CFLs which were 'accidentally' tossed into the trash leaching our of the landfill and making its way into the water supply?

Sure they are pretty good in Easy Bake Ovens.

Incandescent bulbs in-and-of-themselves were not banned, the only thing that changed is their required efficiency.

if we required government to have the same efficiency that they are requiring of companies, the federal government would have less than 1000 people in it and no departments.

not talking $200 for 1 bulb, I am talking $200 for put bulbs in every socket in a home.

when I came into my home, I put CFL's into sockets that were hard to reach, broke 6 bulbs doing that. money down the tube.

Be more careful next time or get help. $200 to replace every light in a house isn't that much, especially when you factor in the longevity of the new light bulbs compared to the obsolete ones.

I will certainly agree that their are decision makers who get involved in setting strategy. But they often have to be hand fed the information necessary to even understand the situation. And when it comes down to what it costs to increase the efficiency of an appliance by 15% would you really ask the financial department? The legal guy? It is even likely past the ken of the product planner.

You simply don't have enough real world experience. I know it is nice to think this is all simply the big corps maximizing profit...and there are lots of high level corp types who would like it to be that way...but that is not how it works in the real world.

I have been in a few thousand meetings on standards and regulation and suspect that there have been at most a hand full of lawyers in any of them. And they were almost always engineers on the side.
I am in a different industry and my 40+ years of experience is just as substantial as yours, and quite different. Unless your experience is directly in the light bulb manufacturing field, my experience is just as valid as yours. Perhaps no more but certainly no less.

When you tell them they will last ten times longer and cost about 1/4 as much to operate they may get it.

OKAY ... WHERE did you get they are "unsafe" ? CFL bulbs are cooler(heat wise), use far less electricity(maybe if YOU paid the bill you would care), and last many times longer.
