For the past couple of years, conservatives have been pushing for an Article V convention of the states. Now you only need 2/3 of the states (34 states) to call for a convention, but you still need 38 states to pass amendments. Here is my question, why would any liberal states support this nonsense, since its only conservatives pushing this idiotic idea?

Be careful what you wish for. A Convention could get rid of some of those pesky Amendments like the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th.
Is that really what you want?
Remember, the Constitution came about when there was a Convention called to improve the Articles of Confederation.
I think they want to gamble to see if the can get rid of the 14th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, and 26th Amendments and possibly rewrite parts of articles 1, 3, and 6.

It is not just conservative States who are joining. There are only 27 States governed by Republicans, yet 34 States were represented yesterday in Virginia. That means at least 6 of those States had Democrat Governors.
One thing every State should be able to agree on is a Balanced Budget Amendment for Congress. Since all 50 States already have laws in place that prohibit any budget that is not balanced from passing, it should gain quick ratification from all 50 States.

A State Constitutional Convention cannot get rid of anything. Nor can they rewrite the US Constitution as they see fit. All they can do is propose changes to the US Constitution, just like Congress. It still requires 38 State legislatures to ratify the proposed amendments.
The only thing a State Constitutional Convention does is bypass Congress when proposing amendments. Since Congress is clearly dysfunctional, and has been for quite some time, it makes perfect sense for the States to take matters into their own hands.

A balanced budget amendment is one of the dumbest ideas conservatives can come up with. If they actually knew what would happen if the federal government would be forced to balance the budget every year, they would cry foul. That would mean cut big cuts to Medicare and Social Security.
Its idiotic because in order to accomplish what you want, you need liberal support, and we have no reason to go along with this idea, especially when its not clear that we would benefit from it.

Yes, it would indeed.
The Balanced Budget Amendment passed the House with a two-thirds majority, and only failed to pass the Senate by one vote in July 1996. Apparently a lot of Democrats and Republicans are on-board with this concept of fiscal responsibility. At least we know where you stand.

that is 1996. This is 2013 soon to be 2014, no liberal is going to join republicans with this idiotic idea.
