72% of the American people believe government is the biggest threat to America but fail to connect the dot that Democrats support big government.

Democrats Believe:

Government has a right to use your money as it sees fit to redistribute wealth, establish new spending programs in times of budget surpluses.

Government regulation and federal control of economic activity can better distribute wealth and services to the American people.

The federal government has the right to determine the values which will be taught in public schools and parents' choice of schools must be limited.

Government has the right to regulate the use of private property in accordance with narrow special interests without giving just compensation to owners.

That some must give up a portion of their rights and freedoms that others may enjoy those same rights and freedoms.

That loyalty to a discredited leader is a virtue and if other office holders have committed indiscretions, a sitting office holder should not be criticized for failing to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct.

So Republicans dominated 6 out of 8 years Bush was in office. Of what good did they do, other than to support the defense industry and provide thousands of jobs by leading the way toward invasive war twice? Republicans became a part of bigger government created by Clinton. So what did they do about it?

No, the other was that 72% think big government is the biggest threat. This thread talks about Democrats who believe in big government but don't connect the dots.

Democrats -> Big Government -> Big Threat / Biggest Problem

I think that the average American is afraid of the term 'big government' and a lot of the rhetoric that surrounds it, but not really big government itself. Over the years, I think that the right has done a good job in sort of demonizing the term so that it now has a negative connotation attached to it.

However, like I said, I think that when it comes down to it, most Americans actually are not against 'big government' per se. Ask most Americans if they want medicare, social security, unemployment benefits, veterans benefits, education, infrastructure, etc. etc. etc. etc. cut, then they'd say no. This is demonstrated by a plethora of polls and surveys. I remember seeing something recently polling Tea Party supporters who all said that they wanted "smaller government", but when given a laundry list and asked to name specific things they wanted cut from the budget, the only things they came up with primarily was foreign aid (which is such a minute percent of the budget that it really wouldn't make a lot of difference if it stayed or went). They didn't want many (if any) of the aforementioned things cut from the budget. I mean Obamacare is still quite disastrous in terms of polling numbers, however, polls have shown that overwhelming support is there for a medicare for all type system and for ideals such as every American having some form of health care/insurance (not mentioning a particular system).

I think that this is also true for much of the American public in general, as I've expressed above.

Again, some claim it's democrats, others claim it's republicans. 72% of people polled say Government is the biggest threat so why would anyone keep supporting any party that wants bigger government.

Big government always had negative connotations.
