From where I sit, it's been downhill from about the 2000's. The boomers have been outnumbered at the polls for quite some time now. The youngest boomers are in their early 50's and the oldest just turning 66 this year. There are a lot more voters in the 18-49 year age range and have been for some time than there are boomers (do a little math. If each boomer couple had just two children (and our fertility rate was higher than that), the echo boomer generation (our kids) would be as big as the boomer generation all by itself). While it is true the boomers were the power generation a little longer than the generations that came before them, like all generations, they pass the torch to the next and the torch was passed a couple of presidential elections ago when gen X coupled with the older echo boomers first outnumbered the boomers at the polls. (Gen x never really held power by themselves because they are sandwiched between two large generations. They kind of had to pick one to join and they seem to have joined the echo boomers or more like the echo boomers joined them given they were here first.)

The real question here is why are things falling apart now that the boomers are no longer in power.

However, the younger generation's mantra is those that came before us ruined it and we can't be expected to fix it, wah, wah, wah...

If you think it's broken, then fix it. The boomer generation no longer holds political power. It hasn't for a while now. If you think your ideas are better, implement them and see how they work. It's your ball game now. While many boomers may not realize they've lost their power, they have. This is the way of life. The torch passes.

You have two choices: Whine about what those before you did or do something to fix it. If you think you've got the answers, go run with them.

The boomers didn't run anything. America is just past her heyday. The 50's and 60's were great because we were recovering from war, inventing new things and we had plenty of jobs. The 80's and 90's (sans the recession in the early 80's) were boom time because we used our educations to invent new things to sell the world. Then we got greedy and started demanding cheap products so manufacturing left our shores and headed to places like Mexico and China that became emerging markets. We got what we asked for and it is NOT the boomers who asked for this.

I'm a younger boomer and I was raised on the idea that you use things until they wear out. Dh is an older boomer and he was raised the same way. The generation younger than us seems to want new stuff all the time even if the old stuff still works and they want it cheap. Guess where cheap products come from? Guess what manufacturing moving over seas does to an economy?

Welcome to your world. Let's see what you do with the torch before you pass it. The boomer generation launched us into the information age. The generation before them put a man on the moon. What will you do?

Unfortunately, there is one thing you can fault the boomer generation for and that is coddling our children. I'm not sure they're going to be able to take over. At least not without MAJOR growing pains.

It's your show now though. Show us what you can do.
All so very true, good post

Let them pay the bills for their idiocy.
A president has almost nothing to do with an Americans day to day existence, it is a generational thing. Young people are spoiled, lazy, insolent, ignorant and always blaming someone else for their idiocy. Well of course not all young people, but certainly those that blame Obama for what has nothing to do with him. Life isn't just politics folks.

That is so much baloney! We were doing fine under Clinton, the bush and bunch screwed everything up and the only thing hopeful that most of us thought of about Obama was that we hoped at least racism was officially over. In that we were incorrect. It was just underground.

Yes, but boomers were also relatively spoiled by their parents when compared to their parents' generation.

Yes. He pitted groups against each other to get re-elected.

Though I agreed with petch's comment, I also agree with this.

I am so sick and tired of people bashing different generations. It's about establishing oneself on this moral high ground and a superiority complex (regardless of whether one is actually superior) and nothing more. It doesn't matter if it's Gen X and Y bashing the boomers or vice versa. All the generations have their faults and also their strengths and accomplishments. This bickering doesn't help us move forward.

People need to realize if their life is not good; look in the mirror. As far as wealth is obvious many of present generation have continued to create wealth beyond what boomers could achieve. The gap is within the present generation not between boomers and them. Its typical reason of the individuals and what choice they have made. All generations have to compete with others in education to work ethic to life style. I find it strange that so many believe all Boomers were hippies when far from true. Just as many of present generation are far beyond what boomers could achieve and its shows in wealth and what has been created by them. No one I the end inherits a way of life from one generation to another they have achieve and maintain what they want to keep. Its plain ole choices and hard work.Mnay cmig to this country seem to know this and are setting the path for the next generation of born here to achieve. Which is the common path of any new arrivals.

You became a "great country" through murder and pure accident.

You were the only 1st World State that survived with an intact infrastructure, manufacturing base and agriculture base.

You coerced everyone into the Bretton Woods Agreement, which made the US Dollar the de facto international currency reserve and the de facto international currency of trade.

The Boomers had nothing to do with that, uh, since they were being born.

From 1900 - 1975 you engaged in a Foreign Policy that set the US up to fail spectacularly, and you are now reaping all the sorrow you sowed during that period.

You committed murder to gain control of the Panama Canal, tortured and murdered citizens and heads-of-State, or illegally overthrowing governments in Central and South American States like Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Brasil, Colombia, Peru, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Cuba, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Mexico and others so that you could steal their resources while simultaneously allowing your corporations like National Sugar, Chiquita (United Fruit), your oil companies and others to operate tax free.

You can't blame Boomers for that.

When you weren't murdering, pillaging, torturing and stealing from you Central and South American neighbors, you were illegally over-throwing governments, murdering, torturing and stealing from other States, like

Greece: illegally overthrew government in 1948; embarked on "nation-building" (snicker) by dumping $Billions in military hardware on the Greeks; then overthrew the Greek government in 1967 for not being enough of a right-wing-fascist-military-dictatorship to your liking; then dumped $Billions more in military hardware on the Greeks.

Can't blame Boomers for that...seeing how you're ignorant and uninformed about everything, you probably aren't aware the voting age was 21 years, and the first presidential election for Boomers was 1968....they voted for Nixon.

You murdered King Faisal in Iraq, then his successor General Qasim, so you could steal oil and your oil companies not pay taxes, and then you backed the Baathist Party which put Saddam in power.

You illegally overthrew the Syrian government in 1954, and again backed the Baathist Party, for the crime of being geo-politically neutral...uh, like Switzerland and Sweden.

You attempted to murder Prime Minister Mossadeq three times and failed, then arranged for his capture and trial in a kangaroo court so you could steal Iranian oil.

You illegally over-threw the Libyan government and installed Ghaddafi as your puppet.

You illegally over-threw the Tunisian government.

You hounded Nasser for being non-Aligned setting the stage for the problems that have plagued Egypt since Nasser's demise.

I could go on and on for days, but it how stupid is it to call Boomers "greedy" when previous Generations are committing murder and illegally over-throwing governments so the US and its corporations can profit?

Anyway, the Foreign Policy in place prior to the Boomers was short-sighted, and while you might have benefited economically in the short-term, you will fail in the long-term.

You are failing now. There are no States left for you to plunder, and those that you might are protected by BRIC.

The Grotesque Society was put in place in 1965....voting age is 21.....if you can't figure it out, the first presidential election for Boomers was 1968.

Can't blame Boomers for that.

Have you considered the possibility that the electromagnetic radiation emitted by all of your personal technology might have a role in that? I'm talking about your TVs, computers, laptops, cell-phones, microwaves, games, and such that did not exist in past when children were "safe."

You stole oil from Mexico. You murdered and tortured people in Central and South America. You murdered heads-of-State, and you illegally overthrew governments.

Let's examine Guatemala. Chiquita owns the only port in Guatemala....the import/export taxes, duties and tariffs are collected and retained by Chiquita, not the people of Guatemala; the roads leading to the port are toll roads and Chiquita collects and keeps the tolls, not the people of Guatemala; 100% of the electrical power capacity is owned by Chiquita who charges monopoly rates.

When President Arbenz starts building a port to compete against Chiquita, and starts building power plants to compete against Chiquita, Truman labels Arbenz a communist traitor and orders his assassination --- murder.

Fortunately, Arbenz survived Truman's Administration, but Eisenhower ordered Arbenz to be overthrown and a new puppet dictator installed.

You caused harm to the people of Guatemala...you harmed each Guatemalan economically and personally.

You owe the people of Guatemala. They are entitled to just compensation for all those things you stole from them, and from potential revenues lost to them, since you economically oppressed them.

When do you intend to do the Christian-thing and make amends?

You sound like a sore loser....you stole from them and prevented them from growing economically, and now when they are in a position to regain a smidgen of what you stole, you cry "Foul!"

Roe v Wade was 1973. The oldest Boomers had 26 years.

You have to be 25 to be a representative and 30 to be a senator.

The America created by the parents and grand-parents of Boomers was a murderous thieving thug.

Granted, not much has changed, and you can blame Generation X-Box and Generation Y-Work for that, too, but at least your ability to terrorize the rest of the world is becoming more limited.
