Protests continue over departure of gay Eastside Catholic vice principal - Local - MyNorthwest.com

I'm not saying yea or nay, but it is an interesting sign of the times. A Catholic school VP banned, and students rally to his defense. Going back to my school daze, no student would rally to any VP's defense, for any reason.

The power of the "collective" seems to be working.
To change society you target the youth who are easily swayed because they have not formed any hard beliefs yet.

This is a perfect example of that.

People coming to the defense of other people. How did it ever come to this?

High schoolers haven't formed any hard beliefs yet?

As a junior in HS I was opposed to LBJ sending combat troops to Vietnam, I still think it was the wrong thing to do.

High school students fighting injustice and religious-based discrimination. I love it. I think the future of our youth is bright and not just saying that because I'm a millennial.

No the acceptance of gays by Catholic youth.
As they get older they will take charge.
As they take charge they will change the rules.
But it will take time before gays can have church weddings along with the priest's blessing.

The Catholic church has silently accepted abortion and birth control.
They verbally say it's wrong and that's where it ends.

They have not said that you are excommunicated from the church if you have had an abortion or take birth control pills have they ?

Getting divorced once meant you were excommunicated from the church.
Now the Church says civil divorces don't count and they will issue you an annulment so you can remarry in the Church.

I've worked around high school students for several years, and I know the tide is turning. The majority of them have gay classmates that they love, respect, and support 100%.

They are also voters of the very near future.

Religion being hypocritical is pretty much on par. No surprises here.
And the Catholic Church is in no shape to be the standard bearer of morality.

Students are not driveling idots. Young men and women don't formalize all their oppinins on graduation day.

Obviously this VP had a positive effect on their educational lives. To support a person regardless of their sexual orientation shows the opposite of "brain washing".

To bad you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

That's exactly what I was commenting on.
To change society you deal with the youth, not the older folks who will kick and scream and refuse to go along.

That's obvious.

I'm just being objective here. My opinion on the matter of gay marriage is my opinion. I don't make any rules so my opinion doesn't matter.

Divorce, contraceptives and abortion is accepted by the Catholic Church today either directly or indirectly.
Gay relationships is next.

It takes years to formulate opinions of what is acceptable in society.
And we do that via K-12.

I'm in the schools and to 11-12 year olds gay relationships are quite acceptable.
And they go back and forth between having a girlfriend and boyfriend.
One girl told me she wasn't sure what she was.

Whether or not I agree with what's going on doesn't make a dent in what's actually going on.
