Default Why America is not part of the commonwealth - - -

Because Americans are not subjects of Her Majesty is the simplest answer.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_II
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states, known as the Commonwealth realms, and their territories and dependencies, and head of the 53-member Commonwealth of Nations. She is Supreme Governor of the Church of England and, in some of her realms, carries the additional title of Defender of the Faith.
Upon her accession on 6 February 1952, Elizabeth became Head of the Commonwealth and queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon.
....

Americans, on the other hand, are persnickety sovereigns - and the social equal of Her Majesty... until they consent to be subjects.
GOVERNMENT (Republican Form of Government)- One in which the powers of sovereignty are vested in the people and are exercised by the people ... directly ...
- - - Black's Law Dictionary, Sixth Edition, P. 695

The people of the state, as the successors of its former sovereign, are entitled to all the rights which formerly belonged to the king by his own prerogative.
Lansing v. Smith, (1829) 4 Wendell 9, (NY)

At the Revolution, the sovereignty devolved on the people and they are truly the sovereigns of the country.
Chisholm v. Georgia, 2 Dall. 440, 463

It will be admitted on all hands that with the exception of the powers granted to the states and the federal government, through the Constitutions, the people of the several states are unconditionally sovereign within their respective states.
Ohio L. Ins. & T. Co. v. Debolt 16 How. 416, 14 L.Ed. 997

In America, however, the case is widely different. Our government is founded upon compact. Sovereignty was, and is, in the people.
[ Glass vs The Sloop Betsey, 3 Dall 6 (1794)]

Sovereignty itself is, of course not subject to law, for it is the author and source of law; but in our system, while sovereign powers are delegated to the agencies of government, sovereignty itself remains with the people, by whom and for whom all government exists and acts.
[Yick Wo vs Hopkins, 118 U.S. 356, 370 (1886)]
Though vulgar, it is technically accurate to tell someone to "Kiss my royal American @ss..."

Coincidentally, since 1776, there has been no other nation that established a republican form of government wherein the people are sovereigns, served - not ruled - by the government.
Curious, aye?

P.S. - citizens are subjects, by definition. American citizens have to perform mandatory civic duties, which voids any presumption of sovereignty and independence.

Well, Canadians sing "God Save the Queen" and talk about being the true North in "O Canada".

Perhaps us Americans are a little leery about people who would pay such homage to a supposedly foreign monarch, especially when in the same lyric they claim to be "strong and free".

Can you really depend on such an ally?

The United States allowed the emperor of Japan to stay on his fake ass throne when we took over responsibility for Japan's security.

That doesn't mean that we paid homage to him - we only let Japan flood our shores with cheap electronics, cars, and sushi bars.

Why not ask the Americans in full retreat in Korea who it was that saved their bacon at KapYong. Or even as recent as sniper support during Afghanistan before you went swanning off to Iraq over a stupid and transparent lie.

Canada has demonstrated they jump in without you even having to ask and you've got a bunch of living diplomatic staffers today (you failed miserably to save just four of yours) smuggled out of Iran as proof and a whole whack of your citizens who were allowed to land on Canadian soil after you deemed them too great a threat and closed your airspace to planeloads of them running out of fuel. You still want to talk "strong and free"?

You mouthpieces done anything like that for Canada lately,..... or ever? .......Didn't think so.

But don't let proof get in the way of your stupid ignorance.

We are freer than you have been for the last couple of decades and the proof is in your TSA goons jangling the jewels of anyone and stopping people on your highways without cause. It ain't Canadian citizens being told to give DNA samples during routine highway stops without probable cause. I can drink a super sized slurpie any time I like anywhere in Canada.

And of course you did that out of purely altruistic reasons without any underlying "self interest" motivations?

What do our motivations have to do with anything?

It worked, didn't it?

What worked?

American investment in Japan paid huge dividends?

Where would the doubt have been in that formulae?

Harrier would rather sing this one instead:

Hail to the Chief - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now that's "PAYING HOMAGE" in style. Brother, is that syrupy or what?

No wonder the words are never sung.

Uuufduh. LOL
